ABOUT ME

I have been traveling a lot over the last few years. After living in New Zealand and Canada for a year each I'm now back in my own country, The Netherlands.

I'm easy going, though chaotic to the extreme. I have no prejudice (well, I probably do, but I try to ignore them) towards other people, so if you're white trash, gay, black or you have a beard to your waist and pray five times a day, don't hesitate to send me a request to stay on my couch. It would be cool to learn something from you and share worlds. It's all good.

PHILOSOPHY

Trust, but don't do it blindly.

No shame. Ever.

If you allow things to happen and give people space to be nice, good things will happen and people do tend to be rather nice.

Oh well... (When something bad does happen.)

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

On my hitch-hiking trips and travels in general I had some great experiences with people who open their cars, houses and lives to you with a high level of trust. Now that I have my own place again I am in the position to return the favour and I hope CS will be a nice way to do so.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None so far.

Scratch that! Hosted my first Couch Surfer last week. Good times!

Scratch that, too! By now I have both hosted a number of surfers and surfed a bit myself.
Feeling is still the same, though: good times!

Wake up next to the beach, nobody around for miles, roll out of my van and into my dive suit, go for a dive, catch a lobster for breakfast.

That was a good one.

Swimming with an Eagle Ray (same spot and trip as above) with a wingspan wider than mine, that was cool too.

Useful things for travellers that I can teach you:

I can tell you a thing or two about how to take better pictures while you're travelling, even with a basic compact camera.

How to make a simple and very light alcohol stove with a Swiss army knife for less than 1 euro (provided you already have the knife).

Basic navigation with a map and compass.
