Resumen
Sobre mí
I'm a relaxed, respectful and happy human trying to see as much of the planet as I can. Well, the interesting bits, anyway... ;-) So far (over the years, not in one hit) that's taken me to England, Scotland, Wales, the inner Hebrides, South Africa, Swaziland, Namibia, Reunion, Mauritius, India, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, France, the Netherlands, Spain, and probably a few others that have slipped my mind, through no fault of their own. Luxembourg, for instance. And Thailand, if you count visa runs from Laos.
I was born in England, raised in South Africa, lived in France eight years, also lived in New Zealand, Vietnam and Laos. I'm Australian by adoption (since 1998) but I have fond feelings for all the countries I've lived in, and I like the "citizen of the world" school of thought.
I'm now living and working as an ESL teacher in Tangier, Morocco, but as I'm currently on the road I can't accept guests yet. I will soon, inch'allah... (I can't change the "Vientiane" bit at the top of my profile -- does anyone know how?)
What else...? Easy-going, funny, helpful, good for a chat about pretty much anything interesting, love motorcycles and bicycles, vote Green, believe in freedom, fun, fairness and sustainable living. I've lived in share-houses and intentional communities and I know what to do, and not to do. (Wash dishes and pans I use / get involved in arguments that don't concern me, for example.)
I enjoy creative, co-operative projects, I'm capable and friendly; I play the blues harp at a modest (but -- I hope -- tuneful) standard.
Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing
I look forward to receiving visitors in the near future (on the road at the moment -- see above). Good stories, laughter and music always appreciated. If you're my host, I'll only ever be staying a night or two. If you're my guest, so will you.
Surfers will literally be on the couch in my very small apartment, but if you're a happy, respectful and peaceable soul you'll be made welcome.
I'm soon to be heading from Essaouira to Chefchaouen. I'm having a blast in Essaouira, but I have to head slowly north: the school term in Tangier starts in September (2016). If I can get a night here or there on my way up, it'll be handy.
BTW, without wanting to offend any fellow surfers, I've noticed Couchsurfing has become a bit of a gay dating site in some cities (Melbourne, for instance). Just so you know from the start, I'm not gay. I'm not looking for sex. I'm just traveling.

Kinda covered that in the "about me" box; I should have read down the page before I started typing. Basically, motorcycles, travel, music, meeting people, having fun.

Música, películas y libros
Music: Iron and Wine, Culture, Toots and the Maytals, Rolling Stones, Mozart, Louis Prima, Madeleine Peyroux... gaargh. Life's too short. Let's just say lots of music "likes".
Movies: you can't beat a good comedy, but I love Easy Rider, The Shining, saw The Confirmation the other day and loved it. Hate sadistic driller-killer shit. I don't watch TV, or own one, but the web series High Maintenance is definitely a fave.
Books: non-fiction. Love The Fruit Palace (a tale of Colombia and cocaine by Charles Nicholl), The Saddest Pleasure (Moritz Thomsen). Novels: Vernon God Little (DBC Pierre); again, too many to list but there's three crackers right there.
Algo increíble que he hecho
*Ridden the length of Australia's eastern seaboard on a 1982 BMW airhead motorcycle to see a full solar eclipse in Port Douglas.
*Touched an 11,000-volt electric cable with an aluminium extension ladder (third-degree burns on hands and feet; not recommended).
*Raised three beautiful daughters (that was a joint-effort, but they've grown into happy, confident adults so I'm taking some of the credit).
*Been bitten by a snake and a spider and stung by a scorpion within the space of one month (gotta love Australia).
Enseña, aprende, comparte
Happy to share cooking, dishes, wine etc.
If you want to know how to do something I can do, I'll show you. If that works both ways, so much the better.
