About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore the healing power of art across the world

ABOUT ME

I am originally from the US and will be traveling for 15 months across the globe: Bolivia, Europe, Tanzania, Japan, Australia and places in between! I will be traveling as a Thomas J. Watson Fellow, independently researching a project of my own design. My project focuses on the potential healing power of art and creativity, especially in relationships to trauma. I would love to talk more about my research (inspiration, findings, etc.) with anyone who is interested!!

I studied painting and mostly work with watercolor and acrylic paints.

I am friendly, outgoing, creative, and love to spend time exploring new places and talking with new people.

PHILOSOPHY

Anyone can be an artist.

Life is "continuously arrested falling" - a series of almost-falls that we stop and support ourselves through creativity, community, risk-taking, etc.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

As I am traveling for the next year, I hope to do a lot of surfing! Couchsurfing is a great way to get a more local and 'real' experience of a city, culture, etc.!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couchsurfed in various cities in Europe and hope to do more!! It's always been really fun, and a great way to get to know a new city and new people! I have always had a more enjoyable experience in a new city with couchsurfing compared to staying in a hostel - I'd much rather get to know local people and their city then other americans I might find in a hostel.

I haven't yet hosted, but after my trip around the world, I plan on returning all of the warm welcomes my hosts have given me!

Interests

Painting, art, music, food, cooking, desserts, public transportation, museums, reading and listening to music!

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite book is 'The Goldfinch' By Donna Tartt.

I am into folk and indie-rock, but I really could listen to any kind of music, depending on the mood and place. I always love to hear what other people are listening to.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbing/hiking 7 hours on the Incan Trail to Machu Picchu, and then retuning the next day at sunrise was the most beautiful experience I have ever had!

Teach, Learn, Share

I like to cook and would be happy to share what I know!
I would be happy to share drawing/painting techniques as well!

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Netherlands, Peru

Countries I’ve Lived In

Bolivia, Germany, Tanzania, United States
