Here are the rules:

If you want to CS with us you will stay at a hotel next to our house and you will pay for it (VND180,000 or about USD$9/night).

We also only host people who themselves have also hosted when they weren't travelling.

Please arrive before 8pm.

2 night minimum stay.

You'll have a working mobile phone that I can call you on.

If you want to CS with us make sure you acknowledge that you understand you will be staying at a hotel at your own expense in your CS request.

I can book your room/s in advance for you. The rooms are small, basic, clean, with wi-fi, air-con, private bathrooms, a double bed and cable TV.

You can't stay at our house due to the local laws, plus we have a bit of a complicated living situation!

But you can spend time with us at our house and use our kitchen, hang out with us and things like that. We live a Vietnamese style life which includes spending much of the day eating with the extended family - you are welcome to join us in this.

I have spent much of the last twelve years travelling and working away from home. I'm originally from Adelaide in South Australia. I have lived and worked in Northern Ireland (Belfast), Canada (Montreal), Vietnam (Phan Thiet) and Australia (Adelaide and Perth).

My family and I have returned to Phan Thiet in Vietnam to live for a couple of years. We used to host a lot of Couchsurfers here between 2009 and 2011.

Phan Thiet is a beachside town and fishing port. Most CSers who visit us seem to have a great time. That said, Phan Thiet isn’t everyone’s cup-of-tea; it’s not really on the mainstream tourist route, there’s not many non-Vietnamese people living here, it’s not really a party town (the nightclubs all got shut down recently – effectively banning dancing), there isn’t even much to do!

Phan Thiet is a foodie heaven (unless you have special dietary requirements or are a fussy eater in which case I’d advise you not to visit) – many of the great TV celebrity chef’s have been here.

If you are a Couchsurfer who has already hosted people and are planning on spending a few days in Phan Thiet I would love to meet you and show you around Phan Thiet, Mui Ne and the surrounding areas if I have time.

Here are some things we can do when we meet up in Phan Thiet:
• Eat amazing street food (fussy eaters need not apply!)
• Have boozy fun nights out
• Go swimming at the beach
• Hangout in Mui Ne
• Climb Ta Cu Mountain
• Enjoy slow sipping of Vietnamese coffee in ambient locales
• Get into the local festivals
• Sing karaoke

Often we’ll catch up with other CSers and do some of the above things together.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I was introduced to CS in 2007 when I had some CS friends while I was living in Canada. I couched at a couple of places in Canada with my CS friends. When I moved back to my hometown of Adelaide a year later I started hosting. I have now hosted in Australia (Adelaide and Perth) and Vietnam (Phan Thiet).
