About Me

A little bit about me........

I am Hali, English and have been living on a boat in the Netherlands for 4 years

I love to paint things, whether its houses, boats, cars, furniture, Canvas, I feel most complete when there is a paintbrush inbetween my fingers. I also have a love for nature and water and prefer to live a primitive, basic and natural lifestyle. Living on boats for a decade and an array of self taught skills I aspire to be as self sufficient as can be and 'attempts' to rebel against the western society. People call me an Eco-Holic :/ I strive for peace, equality and Altruism and if it were left up to me the whole world would be more humane, Conscious, and considerate. I am a Vegetarian T-total health freak but it doesnt mean you wont find me prancing about on the dancefloor! (Just means I will be able to drive you drunkheads back home!!!!) Being English I have a dry sense of humour, its hard to be unhappy when I am around but underneath that thick layer of skin of mine I am a deep, sensitive and wise soul who you can talk with about anything. She can speak English, Nederlands, Espanol and Body Language ;)

PHILOSOPHY

Why pay the doctor to recover our health when we should pay the farmer to keep us healthy

Not all those who wander are lost

Seeing the world as if through eyes of a child

Always be yourself. Unless you can be a pirate........ Then always be a pirate

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

A little bit about the project...............

I have recently rescued 'vrouwe Petronella'. A beautiful Historical sailing ship 20 metres by 4 metres, from 1876 who is in desperate need of some Tender, Love and care and being 9 months pregnant and about to burst any moment I am now unfit to carry out the physical side of the restoration she so desperately desires.

So, thats when you handy couchsurfers come in handy. I am looking for fellow Pirates/Piratees to help bring 'Vrouwe Petronella' back to her former glory. She needs..........

-Deck scrub -Electrical maintenence -Preparing/Derusting and Painting outside -Varnishing woodwork -Mechanical stuff -Cleaning the inside of the ship

No professional skills necessary although its always an advantage to have you onboard and please mention if you have any trade skills.

I wont always be around and expect you to be quite intuitive (although there are other volunteers onboard) I can provide you with a roof over your head and some meals/BBQS when I am there but for the times I am away you will have to organise meals with your team. You can stay for as long or short period as you like (aslong as discussed) during April/May and I would request you help out a few hours per day. Every lil Helps!!! 'Vrouwe Petronella' is lying in a beautiful park 10 minutes from central station so easy access to the Centre if you would like to go adventure! Be aware 'Vrouwe Petronella' is on the primitive side in renovation state. Although the inside is comfortable she has no shower, imited water supply, 12v electrics without mains power run on solar energy and without heating so at this time of the year it can be a little chilly at nights.

So....its not for the faint hearted.

So.......Please get in touch and tell me abit about your ideas, travels, skills and so on

I get on average 30 requests per day and majority of them are generic so I ask that you mention 'Boat' in your request please so I know you have read my profile and you fully understand that Im not just a free couch and your willing to take part in the project :)

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they are a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice. meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.

Be grateful for whatever comes. because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

Hitchiked across the Atlantic and One morning I woke up and looked out of the window to see a whale with a pod of belly flop diving Dolphins swimming alongside me with a glowing vibrant sunset on the horizon
