Overview
About Me
Environmentalist/leftie/feminist :) I'm a biologist but my undergrad was philosophy and mathematics.
In the long term, I want to be an educator. I believe that computers have enormous untapped potential to teach people things, and I want to take advantage of that potential.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Mostly research and conferences :) I've couchsurfed in San Francisco, Brussels, Cologne, and Vienna.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I'm one of those reprobates who mostly listens to single songs by assorted artists again and again, without following up by listening to their other work. A small number of musicians cause me to break with this: Tim Minchin, Sigur Rós, and Bach/Beethoven/Mozart.
Film: favourite directors are Herzog and Bergman. Aside from their work, all-time favourite films are Four Lions, The Battleship Potemkin, The Act of Killing, Melancholia and Ponyo.
Books: favourite author is Borges, favourite book is 100 years of Solitude, favourite non-fiction is Godel, Escher, Bach.
Other: bit of a Shakespeare nut. Favourite painter is Turner, favourite origamist is Robert Lang, favourite computer game is Portal.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Used techniques from origami to create a program for studying the structure of HIV!
Teach, Learn, Share
I could teach you a moderate amount about mathematical biology! Also Shakespeare and a certain amount of philosophy :)
What I Can Share with Hosts
At the moment I only have a mattress and a sleeping bag - and they're in my bedroom, which is student accomodation (I will have my own place soon though)
