关于我

I'd like to think I'm a simple girl - no-frills travelling, no drama (drama at 28 years old - girl, please), no societal pressure to get married or have kids as yet, no getting depressed over not being a yuppie or have an established career (yet), earn enough money to travel as far and as much as I can before coming back to Motherland and doing the adult thing all over again.

But times have changed, and while I still hold true to most of what I've just listed up there, I have come to realise just how complex I - and all of you - are wired. And this came much through travelling and working overseas for a short while, and getting heartbroken, and basically going through some of the most painful times of my life.

To cut it short, I am an average Jane who can't live without words - reading, writing, reporting, talking. Except I get annoyed by people who talk way too much, so I taper down on talking, which is to say I know when to be talkative and when to just be an obliging, nodding, silently-smiling recluse. If you've got an adventurous bone in your body, I think we'd be very good mates. Plus point - I'm up for (almost) anything once in my life. Also, I hate the word YOLO. I'm not on Couchsurf just cos YOLO.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

Hotels are too expensive, hostels can get quite cliquey and noisy and I really dislike shared bathrooms (gone are my early 20s days where idrgaf), airbnbs fall into the same category as hotels, and there's something about the word "Couchsurf" that just makes it so homely. And cosy experiences with personal touches - not too touchy, though, don't take it literally - have always been the best way to explore a new city, town, country, people.

音乐、电影和书籍

Music - I'm open to just about everything, except Gregorian Chant. I love oldies, music from the 60s to the 80s, punk, alternative rock, rock, post-rock, ambient trance, techno, garage. I could go on but I sometimes don't know the names of all these musical genres. Too pretentious, really. Whatever sounds nice to my ears I'll take. For now I'm having a phase with The Libertines, Cigarettes After Sex, L'Imperatrice, Foxygen, Mono (Japan), The Velvet Underground and NOFX's reggae-inspired tunes.

Books - Same as music. I used to hate non-fiction but the latest book I'm reading is non-fiction. I love prose, contemporary literature, chicklit when I have no-brainer days, psychological thrillers, crime. Favourite authors would be Murakami, Mario Puzo, Khalil Gibran, Nick Hornby, Jonathan Kellerman, Khaled Hosseini. Favourite books have changed over the years, let's discuss when we meet.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

It may not be amazing in terms of having saved the world or helping a whole community of people, but it was an accomplishment of mine to have lived and worked in Cambodia for almost two years. That forced me to change my lifestyle, change my spending habits, change my narrow view of people and the world, and changed from someone who could cook zero to someone who can cook lamb shanks now.
