I am a 20 year old currently living in philadelphia. I grew up in philadelphia, spent two years away from it, and now am back. The first year away I spent in Israel, doing social justice work/informal education/anti occupation work. It was a challenging year for many reasons, mostly because Israel is an incredibly hard place but also very connected to Judaism which is something important to me. The next year away I spent at a small liberal arts school in North Carolina. the school is focused on environmentalism and sustainability, both important things to me, so I spent much of my year doing stuff around that. I worked at a recycling center where I worked on waste management and waste decrease. Now I am living in philadelphia doing community college, working, activism, and volunteer work.

I've spent a long time being part of a Jewish youth movement, and it has been an important community for me. It has shaped me and made me who I am today. But recently I am realizing it is the main source of community for me, and I want to have more places of community. It has been challenging having one mocement be the center of community for me. I realized that community is so so important and gives me energy and guidance in life, so I want more sources of community. I want to meet new people and explore new places, and couch surfing seems like an amazing community to do that through.
