I grew up in Germany and early on discovered a love for travelling. With Europe at my doorstep I had plenty of places to go and see. After graduating highschool, I spent a year as an Au-Pair in New Zealand (which remains my favourite country - so far!) and re-affirmed my decision to learn more about anglophone cultures. I have just finished my BA in English Studies (with History as a minor subject). To celebrate (and to take a much-needed break), I am heading to Australia soon.
I am friendly, talkative (once you get me talking about stuff I like ;-)) and I love to explore a country not just as a tourist, but through the eyes of someone actually living there.

兴趣

I have some conventional and some pretty unconventional interests - like playing Quidditch (yes, that is a real sport! I'll happily tell you about it). Generally, I enjoy creative activities (this is where things like tabletop comes in) and being social, though I prefer a movie night to a loud party ;-) As you might have guessed from my education, I find History and English (literature, linguistics, cultural studies...) fascinating. I mainly like medieval history, antiquity and the impact of things like imperialism and colonialism on cultures and countries (Australia, for example, was shaped by some pretty interesting forces and lots of conflict).

My taste in music is probably best described as "If I like it, I'll listen to it". I am not overly fond of HipHop (with some exceptions like the musical Hamilton), Techno and Country though.

I have way too many 'favourite' books to list them all. Generally, I like fantasy and occasionally historical fiction.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I was supposed to go swimming with dolphins in the Marlborough Sounds area in New Zealand. Instead, three orca families (from the massive males to the adorable orca babies) surrounded our boat and swam alongside us for almost two hours. Sitting at the edge of a boat and having such a majestic being surfacing right below you is absolutely breathtaking and that memory will always be one of my favourite experiences of a day where things did not go according to plan - and yet what happened was so much better.

I am very talkative and I love exchanging stories, comparing cultures and customs, explaining (and learning) strange idioms - there is always plenty to chat about. If you have a kitchen, I might also make you some delicious (German) food ;-)
