About Me

Hi, I'm Hannes and I'm from Germany. I've lived in different cities here but ended up settling down in Leipzig, a beautiful city surrounded by lakes in eastern Germany.

I'm a very curious person and am always eager to learn more about the world I live in. This is also why I love quizzes, can spend hours on Wikipedia just reading articles about stuff I will never use in real life, and travelling, because there are always so many people to meet, places to see and things to experience.

I'm quick with a joke, sometimes too quick so you'll either think I'm very stupid or pretty funny. Both are likely correct.

If you start with a topic that is particularly interesting to me, be prepared for a lot of talking. I'm trying to contain myself but I can't help it, sorry. On the plus side, this means you can have very good, long, deep conversations with me about existential topics or the first Season of Pokemon. Your choice!

If you have any more questions, just send me a message, I'll be happy to answer :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I truly like and appreciate the idea of Couchsurfing as a way to meet people from all over the world and help each other out with accomodation. It's been a blast to get to know locals, experience the overwhelming hospitality of people and to get a real feeling for the cities I have travelled to. Likewise, hosting was so cool because I could give back what Couchsurfing had given me, I could meet people from all over the world and show them my city through the eyes of a local.

Life's been busy for a while now, but I'm excited to jump in again.

Interests

In my free time, I'm a huge DnD nerd, love to play badminton, go bouldering indoors from time to time and of course cycle anywhere I can. I also like to hang out with my fianceé and friends and combine the sports/nerd stuff with this as much as I can.
I sing and play guitar, mostly german punk rock or some indie bands which probably count as oldies nowadays (anyone remember Mando Diao?)
I am interested in science, politics, history, philosophy, basically anything that helps to broaden my understanding of myself and the world around me.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to a lot of stuff, but I generally enjoy Rock Music more than other genres.

I'm a huge sucker for Audio Books, mostly Urban Fantasy and High Fantasy. If you don't mind me talking for 2 hours straight, just mention Brandon Sanderson and I might not even notice you're leaving the room haha.

If I had to choose one movie that I wanted you to see, it would be 12 Angry Men in the version of 1957. There's a plethora of other good movies, of course, and I guess you could say I generally like the ones that leave you speechless or broken or amazed at the end. Let's say, I'd prefer Shutter Island over Avengers 90% of the time, even though Avengers is fantastic as well.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My life is filled with small things that amaze me day by day, none of them are so great that they'd stand out and most of them probably only feel amazing to me.

The most memorable experiences though are always my travels. Cycling to Madrid, Driving to Lincoln, UK; Driving to Portugal. Those were amazing to me.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can give you one tip for your life: Never. EVER. Trust Google Maps.

Curiosity and willingness to learn is one of my strongest drives in life. If there's anything you can teach me, I'll be happy to learn.

Unfortunately, I tend to assume that everyone is like me in that regard, so if I share unsolicited trivia knowledge with you, please don't think me rude, I really can't help it.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories, happiness, jokes, obscure facts you'll never need in your daily life. I'd love to bring gifts but as a bikepacker, I usually don't have the space.
