Overview
About Me
I’m Hanxiao. For those who can’t pronounce Xiao, you can just call me Han (Solo).
I’m originally from Hangzhou, China. Right now I’m a full time undergraduate student at Smith College, MA, USA.
I am a very open-minded person. I’m very into all kinds of new experiences from trying scary weird food, Thai boxing, adventurous outdoor activities to cooking a new cuisine, learning a new way of greeting. I’m also down for random chilling - sitting in a cafe for the whole afternoon, reading a book or making small conversations with strangers that might turn to metaphysical philosophical discussions.
I also love to talk with different people from all kinds of walkings. I once chatted with a 78-year-old Austrian lady who immigrated from Peru for a total of 7 hours. I believe staunchly in the conversations with the locals, whose perspective can show the most interesting and vivid aspects of the place.
You wanna know a city, not only should you read the books, visit the museums, go the tourist attractions, but also you should get to know the people.
I have a wide range of interests. I love reading news, political and recreational. Because in USA, as a liberal arts college student, I’ve got chances to take a variety of interesting courses, sociology, anthropology, political science, psychology and German cultures. But after searching for a while, I decided to major in hard science, probably neuroscience with a focus on psychopharmacology.
I’m welcoming guests to visit me at my house in China. In China, my parents own a pretty large house that has two empty large bedrooms, each one with a 2m*2m large bed. I’d love to tell you a lot about China, the real China. The complexities and the contradictories. The stories and the people. The history, the economy and religions. Also, I’ve been to almost every province, every independent municipality and district in China.
A latest ambition I’m having right now is “Riding Motorcycles across America” by the time I graduate from college.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Though this is my first time being on this website, I’ve been traveling by myself since I was 12, staying at various hotels, hostels, airbnb places and friends’ houses for hundreds of times. The reason I signed up for this website is because this summer, I visited my college friend in Thailand and let her showed me around for ten days. Then after I got back to China, another American friend of mine visited me and I showed her around for another ten days. Both the experiences, as a host and a guest, made me feel so different about traveling with a local.
