"I like good friends, steaks and hash-brown potatoes, things like that. I like good books and magazines, riding on trains at night, and those times I flew in an airplane... Of course none of this is in order of preference. I'd have to think about it if it was in the order of preference. But I like that, flying in airplanes. There's a moment as you leave the ground you feel whatever happens is all right... I like staying up late at night and then staying in bed the next morning. I wish we could do that all the time, not just once in a while. And I like sex. I like to be touched now and then when I'm not expecting it. I like going to movies and drinking beer with friends afterward. I like to have friends... I like to go dancing at least once a week. I'd like to have nice clothes all the time. I'd like to be able to buy the kids nice clothes every time they need it without having to wait . . . . And I'd like us to have a place of our own. I'd like to stop moving around every year, or every other year. Most of all... I'd like us both just to live a good honest life without having to worry about money and bills and things like that..." - Raymond Carver

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I currently am constrained to a living situation that doesn't allow for frequent Couchsurfers, however I enjoy showing people around the Bay Area and would love to bring you out for a drink or a cup of coffee and take you on a tour.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had a few great experiences hosting foreign visitors to the United States during the summer of 2010. I have since moved to a place where at this time I cannot host guests, but am interested in meeting up!

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm interested in a lot of these!

The extended list:

Books:

> Authors - Joan Didion, Joy Harjo, Zackary Schomburg, H.D., Wallace Stevens, Sappho, Ann Sexton, Margaret Atwood, Nicole Krauss (Jewish-American fiction in general), Milan Kundera, Allison Bechdel, Borges, Cortázar, Marquez (modern Latin-American Lit in general) This question is too broad.

> Currently trying to read a lot of chapbooks from small presses and literary magazines such as A Public Space, a bird and beckett review, octopus magazine, McSweeney's Quarterly (by default), The Iowa Review...

Movies:

> Directors: Felinni, Godard, Gondry, Jeunet, Sofía Coppola

> General/Specific: French and Italian movies from the 1940s-1970s, noir, The Secret Garden, The Science of Sleep, Casablanca, Bonnie and Clyde, Amélie, Synecdoche, New York, American Classics, Westerns, animated films from the early 1900s

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I still consider myself young and inexperienced when it comes to travel. My travels outside of the US have been limited to Western Europe and Israel, so I'm yet to be inspired by a context that is completely foreign to me. I have, however, rested naked in the Dead Sea, seen the white night of Norway, the sun come up in Madrid, the vast olive fields of southern Spain, and a great deal of Architecture and History strung along my travels' path, and those memories keep me going for now.

Teach, Learn, Share

I don't know yet what I have to contribute! I am a connoisseur of the literary arts, I suppose, but not enough to feel I am an expert on the subject, nor that it is something I have to offer to another person.

As for things I hope to learn from others, I can't put my finger on any exact skill or tidbit of knowledge I wish to glean from another person. I would love to learn more about photography, I suppose, sharpen my Spanish language skills (always), learn new languages, eat different foods... there is no limit to what others have to offer.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have lived in the Bay Area for about nine years, now, both in Oakland and San Francisco. I enjoy showing people around on both sides of the Bay.
