About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To enjoy life
ABOUT ME
Single mother of 4 grown up children (all in their twenties and thirties). I'm a born optimist, sociable and friendly. I stand firm for what I believe is right, and I'm not afraid to speak out against what I believe to be wrong.
PHILOSOPHY
My family motto is "To Be Rather Than To Seem". I'm happy to go along with that - honesty is usually the best policy, with yourself as well as with others.
"Do As You Would Be Done By" is a good moral code to live by as well.
I (try to) treat my family as friends and my friends as family, which I find generally makes for a happy home.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Hosting visitors at my home in Devon, and surfing with others when on my travels.... that's what it's all about, after all!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've met lovely people through CS, both as a host and as a guest, and I'm sure I will meet many more!
Interests
Running/hashing, cycling, motorbiking, dancing, walking, hang gliding & paragliding (although haven't flown since 2012), cooking, hanging out with family/friends, theatre, cinema, live music, photography, going to the beach (any time of year), gardening and also just chilling out and having a quiet night in with a decent book or a DVD.

Music, Movies, and Books
My favourite authors include Shakespeare, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Isabel Allende, Joanne Harris, Louis de Bernieres, G.B. Edwards.
Music: I have a varied collection of all sorts of stuff - alphabetically it starts with Anxo Lorenzo and ends with Yes, but there's a total mix in between.
Movies: art, romance, fantasy adventure, animated, period drama, contemporary drama, comedy, all sorts - just please don't ask me to sit through badly done gratuitous violence. However, in total contrast to that, I do generally like Quentin Tarantino films!
Overall, I have fairly wideranging tastes, and I find it very hard to try to list my tastes by specific genres (because I'll probably leave something out) or titles/artists/authors (because I can never remember their names!).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I have brought up four amazing, wonderful people, who have enriched my life beyond my wildest dreams since the days they were born - my children are by far and away my greatest achievement(s) in life.
Having a griffon vulture flying about 5 feet away from me when I was paragliding in Ager (Spain) in 2011 was pretty far up the list too, although having it dive at my wing with its talons out was scary! Fortunately it didn't make any contact though, or I might not be here to write this now!
Teach, Learn, Share
Stories - I love hearing other people's stories, experiences and views, and if we ever meet, and if you're interested, I'll happily share a few of my own.
If you visit me, you're very welcome to come along and join in with my running club/cycling/dance class (jive), depending on what day of the week it is. Complete beginners are welcome at jive class, so don't be shy :-).
A couple of words of wisdom that I think are worth sharing, passed to me by a friend when my children were very small:
1. Enjoy them while they're little - it doesn't last long enough;
and the second one is particularly applicable to teenagers:
2. It's a phase and they WILL grow out of it!
