For all who will come to Mangalore;
When you will come to Mangalore by railways, I strongly recommend to get off at Mangalore Central Station, not at Mangalore Junction Railway Station.
Because Central Station is inside of city, the distance from Central Station to center part of city is walkable one for backpackers, auto rikshaw drivers do not take so much extra money from you. However, the distance from Junction station to center part of city is farer, any auto drivers and taxi drivers try to take so much extra money from you.

So, if you will arrive at Junction Station by railway, you would better to avoid any drivers at the station itself, please go to the main road on foot and catch a bus which towards to State Bank Bus Stand. It is a better way.

In Mangalore, auto rikshaw depends on meter system, inside of city area, any extra fare is more there. Extra tariff is only Night time charge(meter plus 1/2) and Beyond Border of city charge(meter plus 1/2), that's all basically.
