ABOUT ME

I'm from Oxford in the UK, and have lived here most of my life, with the exception of three-and-a-half years studying music in London. The last three-and-a-half years (since graduating) I've been working for an academic publishers', doing various bits of music work (music directing, accompaniment, arrangement, songwriting, etc.) on the side. I've now handed in my notice at the office to be a self-employed freelance musician. Eek!

I'm a creative person and tend to be pretty busy, with some half-baked arty idea in the pipeline. I perform regularly as a piano-based cabaret singer-songwriter, and love going to live music, theatre, and galleries. I enjoy ambling, walking, and jogging... songwriting, analogue photography, and reading. And meeting new people, of course. I'd like to do a lot more travelling than I've done, which is a motivation for joining this site.

PHILOSOPHY

Take risks, follow your instinct, and practice random acts of kindness. Smile at people on public transport. Sing to yourself and to others.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For now I'm unable to host, as I've moved home in order to take the jump from working full-time in an office to working as self-employed musician. I hope in the future to be in a situation where I can offer a spare room or couch. I'd be happy to meet anyone visiting Oxford for a cup of tea and to show you some of the sites!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - contemporary singer-songwriters and arrangers, as well as cabaret and musical theatre. Movies - I tend to like bittersweet and other-worldly things, verging on the odd side. Books - quite a variety, but do enjoy allegory, magical realism, and fantasy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seeing NY from the top of the Rockefeller early on a crisp December morning last year, before anyone else (other than a lone security guard) got up.
