About Me

Howdy! I grew up in Texas, backpacked Europe for 7 months, lived in Tennessee for a year, moved to New Zealand for another year, and have now lived in Australia since 2018!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing to meet new people and hopefully gain a better understanding of the places they call home. I love to meet locals and discuss differences in culture/beliefs/religion/education/society - you name it, I like talking about it! My main goal is to keep an open mind and learn from everyone that I get the chance to meet.

Interests

I LOVE to read! (I can't name a favorite book, I'll tell you that right now) I love books in general, and people who read books, and talking to other people who love books. Discussing different ideas or theories. Giving and receiving recommendations. Creating elaborate networks and connections across different authors and plot lines. I love books that make you think, or spark your imagination, or inspire your creativity. I will read a good fantasy book for HOURS on end. My bookshelves hold everything from self-development and people skills books, to books on politics and government and economics. I'm planning on either picking up or downloading some books on philosophy to read while I'm traveling, and whatever else looks good and interesting.

If I'm not reading, I like to spend my time watching movies. I've been known to binge watch Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings movies quite often and I'm a sucker for sci-fi, even if the movie has a horrible story line. Also, I have a habit of watching horror films just to point out all the flaws they may have.

My job keeps me pretty active, so I don't work out or do anything of that nature, although I used to dance and still enjoy grooving and jamming out in my car since I also drive quite a bit.

I'm never up-to-date on sports of any kind, as I'm pretty indifferent towards them. I think they provide good entertainment and am 100% willing to watch or play, if there is nothing else, but they definitely aren't first on my list.

Music is a mystery to me, and I kind of like it that way. I never learned how to read or play it, but I absolutely love to hear other people play. I used to watch my sister tune her cello by matching notes (I think?) on her piano. It fascinates me, and I find the whole world of music to be almost, 'magical'.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Alternative Rock, Australian Indie, Disco

Movies: Gladiator, obviously. Almost anything with Tom Hanks or Leonardo DiCaprio or Jim Carrey (or Robin Williams!) is gold. Nicolas Cage movies tends to make me laugh, just because I find them to be awful.

Books: My list of favorites is always changing as I read new books :)
