Born in Iowa, raised in Ottawa, Canada and Fairfield, Iowa.

PHILOSOPHY

I have no idea why we are here. I don't think there is any meaning to this life except the meaning we give it. I have no idea if there is an afterlife but I strongly doubt it. I think all we can do is just make this time as enjoyable as we can by showing compassion and love to others and maybe creating some awesome works of art and eating some great food before we kick the bucket. But who really knows right?

George Carlin said something to the effect of - When you're born you get a ticket to the circus, just sit back and enjoy the show.

That actually may be an amalgamation of several of his quotes, but somehow that wording stuck with me.

Intereses

I like talking about just about anything: music, science, movies, religion, philosophy, sometimes even politics. The more I learn, the more I realize I hardly know anything.

My main interest is composing music and remixing. I was brought up on video game soundtracks I still love them. Lately I've been discovering Phoenix, and also The Black Keys.

I also enjoy computer programming and technical problem solving.

I hardly play video games these days but you should always wake me up in the middle of the night if there is even a whisper of someone planning to play Tekken Tag or Tetris Attack. Day of Defeat to a lesser extent. Some of my pals recently got me into Magic the Gathering and I super enjoyed it. It quickly turned into Money the Wasting though, so I cut myself off. I'm always down for a game if someone has decks though.

I love poker, but I play very rarely, because it usually isn't a profitable affair for me, but MY MY what fun it is.

Other interests include piano, tea, running, standup comedy, reading, writing, language learning.

Fiction:anything by king, crichton, tolkien. game of thrones, slowly but surely.

Shantaram changed my life, and I'm not even finished it yet, holy cow.

Non-fiction: Anything by Sam Harris, Carl Sagan, Michael Pollan, Tim Ferriss.

I like movies a lot, maybe too much. I find it fun to talk about movies, taking them apart, what they mean. I've always liked the shawshank redemption, the green mile and road to perdition. It helps that Thomas Newman scored them all. He's the boss.

Departures (Okuribito) punched me right in the stomach, holy shit what a great film.

I love Louis CK and everything he stands for. (2018 edit: WOW cringe city. I haven't updated this profile in 5+ years. It now seems there is at least one thing that Louis CK stands for that I don't love: jerking off in front of people who know that he could make or break their career, and then calling them liars when they report it.)

I like a lot of of music but lately I've been listening to old offspring, our lady peace, airbase, kai tracid, nobuo uematsu, counting crows, deadmau5, immortal technique and ben folds. and randy newman, always randy newman.
