ABOUT ME

Hi there!

My name is Heidi Allstop and I'm a recent graduate of UW-Madison. I'm open-minded, easy to get along with, and would love to be able to form relationships with the people I surf with, rather than just crash on their couch! I have some great stories to share, and would love to learn more about the people who are kind enough to share their homes with me!

In terms of what I'm passionate about: I started an organization called Student SPILL (Supporting Peers in Laidback Listening) a couple years ago, and am currently spreading the program to schools across the country. Basically, SPILL is a peer-based support system online that allows students to write in (anonymously) and vent about whatever problems they're going through (roommate problems, worries about the future, body image issues, academic stress, concerns about sexuality, etc). From there, we connect them with 6-8 other students who have had experience with THAT specific struggle, and are willing to give the "Spiller" support, feedback, and resources for getting through that problem. It's been a really neat process, and I'm so grateful to be able to spend my time making a difference in people's lives! I've recently turned it into a company, and am now traveling a lot to meet with schools interested in adding it. Hence, I have an excuse to finally couch surf!

I'm just recently getting involved with this, so still getting the hang of how it all works. I live in Madison, WI and currently don't have a couch to offer, but I definitely know I will pay it forward in the future. For now, I'm just hoping that people will be kind enough to share their homes with me, or even grab a bite/drink and show me some of the wonders of the city!

Unfortunately I'm still a newbie.. but excited to get involved! I've met a lot of cool people at Hostels around the world, and I feel like CouchSurfing holds the same opportunity
