About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To turn enormous personal upheaval into an opportunity to be free.

ABOUT ME

I am serious but with a dry sense of humour and I have been told I have an infectious laugh. I have a good memory for names but not faces. There are two reasons I'm not adding a photo to my file: I don't have the know-how; and I haven't looked in a mirror for over a year. However people I meet seem to think I look fine.

PHILOSOPHY

Try not to assault the planet. Try to see the best in other people. Try to be self-aware.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have just started learning what this is about. Participate by being as open as I can.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When I rocked up in Lancaster in December 2007 I was lucky enough to get chatting to a great group of people at the Britannia pub. This led to an impromptu couch-surf and an excellent weekend. In September 2008 I moved up north. Now I would like to repeat the adventure with new friends, in new places and maybe couchsurf on return trips to Bedford.

Interests

Good home cooking. Volunteering. Crossword puzzles. Yoga. Sheffield Wednesday Football Club.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music was a great source of pleasure and now causes pain because of memories. Funk, soul, jazz, reggae, blues, Steve Reich, Villa-Lobos... My all-time favourite film is The Year of Living Dangerously. A book that I remember savouring is Waiting for Snow in Havana by Carlos Eire.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Robins hatching from eggs laid in a nest built on my daughter's bedroom window sill.

Teach, Learn, Share

I work in the field of immigration advice so could give information about applying for UK visas.

Countries I’ve Visited

Egypt

Countries I’ve Lived In
