Hi, I have lived and worked in India, and now, United States. You are right, the expat experience is much different from that of a traveler. I have experienced both while also visiting more countries than I can name here. Living in other countries is a chance to learn so much more about the people, culture, and way of life in that particular country and I so appreciate being able to do that as an overseas educator.
