About Me

ABOUT ME

I love traveling and I'm always looking for a new excuse for a road trip. I have lots of hobbies including collecting other people's home movies. You'd be amazed what you can find on those 8mm gems! Lately I spend my time doing PR for two low budget movies (one documentary and one horror) and doing web freelance work and the occasional writing gig.

PHILOSOPHY

Personal philosophies too often sound like t-shirt slogans. Having said that, I think life is a series of adventures. Even bad events can be turned into good stories.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

After years of recommending this site to people I just realized I never signed up myself! Right now I'm only hosting, but I might be going cross country as part of a film "barnstorming" and I think it would be great to do it using Couch Surfing and vlogging!

Interests

I'm interested in movies, books, writing, travel, casual video games, and people.

Music, Movies, and Books

My Favorite Movies: "Murder, My Sweet", "Tombstone", "Lord, Love a Duck", "Big Trouble in Little China", "Band Wagon"
My Favorite Music: Ella Fitzgerald (preferably with Chick Webb), Flickerstick, Pet Shop Boys
My Favorite Authors: Stephen Fry, Kurt Vonnegut, A.S.M. Hutchinson, Stanley Elkin, the great Robert Sheckley
My Favorite TV Shows: House, Doctor Who, Blake's Seven, Twin Peaks

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was on vacation alone in South Dakota. On a whim I decided to go hot air ballooning. The view was amazing! Then the winds kicked up unexpectedly and we crashed. Luckily nobody was seriously hurt, but it was a moment of pure terror none of us will ever forget!

Teach, Learn, Share

When teaching writing, I tell students you can learn more from actively reading and critiquing the work of others than you can from having your own work reviewed. The same is true about becoming a better person. Try actively listening when people are talking and set aside how what they are saying relates to you. Everyone has a story, but not everyone can hear it. Be the person who hears it.
