About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Escaping Georgia Tech one state at a time

ABOUT ME

I'm a biologist that works in museum exhibitions all around the world. Though most of my traveling nowadays is for work and not through surfing, I love meeting up with people in new cities.

Though I love researching the hell out of a place or a thing, when I get to travel I don't really like making plans. That makes me very laid back and always up for a spontaneous gamble on some restaurant, park, switchbacked road, drink, etc. I have always preferred to learn a new place by making friends with locals, eating local food and exploring off-the-beaten path places.

With a nerdy nature streak, I can't get enough of tromping through national and state parks armed with field guides and binoculars.

PHILOSOPHY

"Neither fire nor wind, birth nor death can erase our good deeds."

Music, Movies, and Books

Love, love documentaries and comedies, not so much into horror flicks but sometimes they hit the spot. I'm into all sorts of music, particularly turn-tablism and good hip hop. I honestly listen to just about anything though. Billie Holiday, Ray Charles, Segovia, Miles Davis, Madlib, Prefuse 73, RJD2, Debussy - more than liking all sorts of music, I love hearing new music that I've never heard of before.

I have a similarly wide palette for books as well - Kafka, Vonnegut, Thompson, Card, Bradbury, etc plus I really enjoy looking at plates in field guides. I know that's totally weird but they're just so neat.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Every long distance ocean sailing trip I've ever done has been an amazing thing done. I'm not talking about "let's hire a charter and sail the Caribbean", I mean "let's round up some fellow college sailors and hijack a parent's boat" sort of trips. I'm really surprised we didn't die on a lot of those - not necessarily because we were stupid, but because that takes some extreme teamwork that seven 20 year olds rarely have from the get go. Sailing makes you a stronger person for sure if it doesn't maim or kill you first.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've been teaching sailing for years now and would love to share my knowledge with new people. It's not quite as hard as it looks and is such a wonderful hobby.

I also play the ukelele which is perfect cause A) it's not a guitar and B) people have pretty low expectations when you pull it out. It's *very* easy to learn and only slightly harder than easy to learn to play. Learn three chords on it and you'll be charming anyone around. Sounds corny as hell, but everyone loves a uke.

I can give you some kickass techniques on making the prefect cup of coffee or espresso drink as I'm a "certified barista". Not sure what that title even means but I do know a thing or two about making coffee drinks.

Want some completely useless wildlife facts? Look no further.

I'd love to learn where the most beautiful places in your town are, new yoga poses, how to surf, how to make homemade things, new recipes, and new drinks.
