Music. Right now Jeff Buckly The Doors, David Bowie (of course) The Black Keys, Tom Waits, The Correspondents, Parov Stelar etc. Blues and Electro swing.
As for books. So many. A few are; Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrel, His Dark Materials, Lolita, Catch 22, 1984, The Sot-Weed factor, Lanark, Dracular, Anything by George Orwell, Aldous Huxley, Stephen King, Robert Louis Stevenson and Mark Twain. Dickens isn't bad either.
