Overview
About Me
I'm a fairly easy going person, have often been called a bit of a hippy but I generally take that as a compliment. I like new experiences and learning new things.
My main passions in life are nature, animals and science which drove me to studying a BSc in Ecology and Conservation, and a MSc in Conservation Biology. Where possible I like to live my life in a way that will not harm the planet, and I used to be a bit of a green activist although I seem to have grown out of that.
I am a very considerate and loyal person, I will do anything for my friends. Talking of which, I am a social animal and feel a bit isolated if I don't interact with friends on a regular basis (as discovered when I worked away for three months surveying small mammals). I prefer quiet nights in or bars and pubs to clubs these days. I like to be able to talk and hear what people are saying. I have some fairly strong green views myself but I don't mind discussing differing views with others, and will never lose my cool over a difference of opinions.
My ideal night in is probably a takeaway with some comedy on tv (think: arrested development, American dad, Brooklyn nine nine).
My ideal night out might well involve a bat survey followed by a drink with the bat group, or drinks around a campfire at a festival with various music/other tents available for wanders as and when you feel like it. I've mentioned drinking twice now, but I don't actually drink alcohol much at all, although I have no problem with those who do.
My ideal day out would be to walk around a beautiful scenic new area or maybe some sports like kayaking or indoor climbing.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am moving to a new area, hundreds of miles from home so am looking to meet new friends, and may need the odd night of accommodation depending on how quickly I can find a room to rent.
I've heard good things from friends about the site so wanted to give it a try.

Music, Movies, and Books
I have a varied musical taste but it tends to centre around indie/folk rock/pop.
I'm not sure about favourite film, it was LOTR and the last of the Mohicans growing up. These days I tend to prefer upbeat and comedy films although I dislike romantic comedies.
My favourite books are the James Herriot vet series, and the Gerald Durrell naturalist/collector series.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I danced in the opening ceremony for the common wealth games in Manchester as a teenager - I'm not really sure it's that amazing since lots of kids did, but oh well.
The other amazing things I've done are a bit more personal so I'd rather talk about them to real people.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am fairly knowledgeable about ecology and conservation biology and always happy to talk about it. I can teach bat or small mammal surveying techniques and maybe practical stuff too if I can procure the right equipment.
I may also be able to teach you some basic kayaking stuff although it's hard to arrange (need boats, water etc).
What I Can Share with Hosts
The skills mentioned above, and I am also happy to bake for people.
