About Me
I'm an easy going Brit looking to meet interesting people and see/hear about new things and new places.
Life mission is to try to save the world - climate change and all that. I'm really interested in energy/climate/environmental issues BUT I promise I'm not a zealot - I do get that it's not everyone's priority, and always like hearing other people's points of view. Or just chilling out - I like that a lot too.
I grew up in London and on the south coast of the UK. I'm back living in the Big Smoke, and I love the city and all it has to offer: from its pubs to its theatre, its culture, its museums, its amazing city walks, its pubs... I also spent 6 years living in Edinburgh, and travel a lot around the UK and Europe. Happy to share the fruits of my errors and tell you where not to go. Some awesome places too.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm currently living out a dream and taking a trip around the USA, trying to get there (and around it) without flying.
Having stayed in a few couchsurfing places in Europe, and had people to stay with us whilst I lived in Scotland, I really love the way that it can give you an insight into a place and its people. I love hosting guests when I can (currently in between flats, but hopefully up and running on CS soon) and would always much rather sleep on someone's floor than stay in a completely soulless chain hotel.
And if there can be a bit of conversation, life experience or local knowledge thrown in, well, that's the dream.
Interests
Top interests are interesting environmental things and anything to do with energy production (seriously). Also like a bit of politics, whatever flavour. MUSIC please. Nearly any flavour.
To be honest though, I really do enjoy a good conversation with just about anyone!
I also love walking round cities, good long hikes in the countryside, and cycling - I'm slowly slowly getting to grips with city bikes in North American traffic...

Music, Movies, and Books
Basic rule would be not to rule anything out, don't limit to genres.
My iPod is pretty diverse, but with an emphasis on indie. Especially early noughties indie. I will always love the White Stripes, the Libertines and Sigur Ros truly and unconditionally. 'Build me up buttercup' will always cheer me up. Finding great new tracks is one of life's top joys.
I don't get to the cinema as much as I'd like, but love a good movie. Paris Je T'aime remains a top favourite.
Favourite books changes with what I've read recently. I often return to The Lord of the Rings and The Old Man and the Sea. Currently enjoying stuff by Barbara Kingsolver. And I've been trying to finish Les Miserables (in English) for about four years - it's very good, but very long. I'll get there one day...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I just travelled across the Atlantic on a container ship - super low carbon, and pretty interesting. Nothing wakes you up like a good 10 metre wave hitting your ship.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach: some basic french, how to make an origami crane, my mum's apple crumble recipe (it's pretty basic though, sorry).
If you're after something a bit more serious - I can tell you all about the UK energy system, and offer some completely subjective views on international climate policy.
I believe very strongly in sharing for the joy of it whenever possible. Anything I can teach or share I will.
And always looking to learn whatever I can whenever I can.
What I Can Share with Hosts

I'll cook you up something (hopefully) delicious and happily help out wherever I can. Happy to share anything I have!
