About Me

Typical PNW outdoorsy hipster here! Interested in art, music, film, philosophy, running, foraging, hiking, backpacking, (absolute novice) mountaineering, and so on. Usually described as gentle, curious, creative. Rarely found without a book or a backpack :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm returning after a long hiatus, as I've recently begun to travel more frequently. Abroad, I sincerely treasure any opportunity to make genuine connections with others, and to experience a place through another person's particular view of it. At home, I love to offer visitors the same—especially if they're interested in getting outside!

Interests

I sporadically post nature and travel stuff on my Insta account, which you may check out here, if you're interested: https://www.instagram.com/snow.sketches/

Music, Movies, and Books

This is probably superfluous info, but in case you're really curious:

Music: I tend to listen pretty freely across genres, but 80s-90s indie rock is, generally speaking, my home base.

Films: lately, really loved Wim Wenders' 'Perfect Days.' Perennial favorites include 'Wings of Desire,' 'Cave of Forgotten Dreams,' 'Encounters at the End of the World,' 'Sherman's March,' 'American Movie,' 'Werckmeister Harmonies,' and any of the Christo/Jeanne-Claude docs.

Books, literary stuff: very fond of W.G. Sebald, Rilke, Lorca, Joyce, Beckett, Kafka, Saint-Exupery. Books, philosophy stuff: Spinoza, Dewey, and Deleuze are main points in the constellation of thinkers I tend to look to the most. This year, (slowly!) reading Hegel.

Teach, Learn, Share

I haven't yet hosted, and am still feeling it out. Sooner or later, though, I think I'd like to start—so, if you think we'd get along, feel welcome to reach out, and I'll think about it! I imagine I could offer the following:

- I love getting folks outdoors, and (conditions permitting) would be happy to take you hiking, snowshoeing, etc., with an itinerary adjusted to your comfort/fitness level.
- I'm generally game for any sort of collaborative creative project. If you don't mind playing quietly (but quiet can be nice), we could play music at my place! I've always really wanted to try hosting a 24-hour zine project, too. If there's something you'd like to do, pitch away, and I'll probably be into it!
- I typically like to cook and share simple food! Happy to host a dinner, or throw a picnic. I do know a few places with fire pits, and make a decent campfire baba ghanoush.

What I Can Share with Hosts

- I'm pretty tall, so if there's a burnt-out light bulb or something you've been struggling to reach, I'm your guy.
- More seriously, if there's anything you need help with around the house, I really am willing to pitch in, in whatever way makes it feel worth hosting.
- I'm always happy to chitchat about mutual interests, trade notes on travel, (try to) answer questions about curiosities of American culture, etc.
- Again, I like sharing food! I don't think I can claim to be an especially good cook or anything, but neither am I an especially bad one; at any rate, I'm an enthusiastic accomplice.
- I love exploring a place by simply wandering around a lot, so if you've been longing for a walking buddy, I think I'd be a good candidate :)
