About Me

ABOUT ME

I grew up on a tiny island off the coast of Maine, and I try to take elements of my island with me wherever I go. And more often than not, I'm far away from my island home... I just graduated from college in Portland, Oregon, and I've also spent time living in Siena, Italy, and Quito, Ecuador.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

It's all about the people. There are lots of great adventures and conversations to be had!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed in Padova, Munich, and Salinas, and have hosted on the small island in Maine where I grew up.

Interests

Three of the things I enjoy most: good food, good people, good places to go for a long run.

  • dining
  • running
  • boating

Music, Movies, and Books

Books that have kept me company when I've most needed it: East of Eden, Wallace Stevens' Poetry, the Great Gatsby, an anthology of Flannery O'Connor stories, The Hobbit, The Sun Also Rises, and To Kill a Mockingbird. I bring Steinbeck's Travels with Charley with me on just about every trip. I wrote my college English thesis on Faulkner, but I'm more of a Hemingway girl and really enjoy a good short story.

Music... The best album I've had on repeat is Boxer by the National, the best show I've been to is a toss-up between Passion Pit and Beirut, and the best music to cook a Thanksgiving dinner to is Devendra Banhart's Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Done:
- Floated down a branch of the Amazon on an inner tube
- Kayaked to high school
- Ran in the National Championship race for NCAA Division III cross country
- Experienced Koningsdag in Amsterdam
- Driven across the northern United States in a truck as old as I am (it broke down the week after we got where we were going...)

Seen:
- Whales at sunrise on the Atlantic Ocean from my Dad's lobster boat
- A snowstorm in Klamath Falls, Oregon from the window of a train to San Francisco
- Giotto's frescoes at the Arena Chapel in Padova, Italy
- Munich from the top of Alterpeter
- The Cliffs of Dover from a plane window at sunrise
