Wants to Meet Up

Travel is when a new consciousness emerges. The bulk of my adventures are in the people I meet.
I don't know who I am only because I believe who we are is fluid and evolving, so I can never really say who I am, and neither do I care to as I do to "experience" who I am becoming. About the only thing I am grounded in are my values. I know where I come from and what I'd like to be -- a catalyst for something good.
"To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget."
- Arundhati Roy
"I will not die an unlived life. I will not live in fear of falling or catching fire. I choose to inhabit my days, to allow my living to open me, to make me less afraid, more accessible, to loosen my heart until it becomes a wing, a torch, a promise. I choose to risk my significance; to live so that which came to me as seed goes to the next as blossom and that which came to me as blossom, goes on as fruit."
- Dawna Markova
"To be shaken out of the ruts of ordinary perception, to be shown a few timeless hours the outer and the inner world, not as an animal obsessed with words but as they are apprehended by the mind."
- The Doors of Perception, Aldous Huxley
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I offer a couch on the condition that you arrive after 6pm at night and are okay with my occasional snoring, sleep talking, and my watching movies before I sleep. (I'm not that bad though, and am probably exaggerating, so don't be discouraged.) Please request to stay through the official form, not in a message.
While I'm more than happy to offer my place to good people, I may not always be willing to go with you places, usually because 1) I've been there 2) I work a lot and am too tired 3) had other plans 4) just genuinely not interested (eg: drinking soju -- I HATE soju!!) or 5) I don't consider myself a tour guide. However! I will always be there for you logistically to help guide you around the city, offer advice, etc. -- things like helping you with public transportation, acquainting you with the geography of the area, familiarizing you with the food and how much things are supposed to cost, and showing you the good restaurants. Basically, I will help you with the practical little worries a traveler might have so that you can go on your way to having a great time.
I love to play soccer, though I hardly watch it.
I don't often talk about myself, but I very much enjoy living your experiences through the stories you tell, no matter how trivial. I just like hearing people talk.
I go to art museums during the day time, and I watch movies before I go to sleep.
If I'm not at home, I'm probably hanging out at some cafe doing nothing or something.
I enjoy walking underneath the sunshine, the arts, live jazz, going to spas, daydreaming about the interior design of my own home, and talking to random people who look approachable when they are alone.
Obviously, I like to travel, but only in a way that allows me to participate locally -- teaching English in Vietnam and South Korea, researching/interviewing along the Thai/Burma border, studying abroad in Tokyo, and being subjected to British English while ("whilst") studying Economics.
Music, Movies, and Books

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Not quite "seen" as it was imagined -- the study of string theory.
Teach, Learn, Share
I not only speak English, I'm certified to teach it.
I still want to learn Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, Korean, Thai, and Arabic, as well as gain fluency in Japanese.
I enjoy personal finance, and can teach you how to save money without having to abstain from anything. I also know about how to retire than your average 20 or so year old.
I like to know everything there is to know about Burma, and how to help activists there and abroad lift themselves up from economic and spiritual poverty and oppression.
Which isn't to say I don't care about the human rights of other peoples and communities, because I do, and I want to learn how I can help them, too. (I've just been more involved with Burma since college.)
Recently, I've been interested in photography, especially portrait, street, and landscape photography. I want to learn more from other people. I would love to meet up with people who want to walk around London taking pictures of things/people as I would enjoy seeing how you work.
