About Me

Hello!

My name is Hugo, I'm from Australia and I'm currently on a 7 month adventure across North America and Europe. In January I arrived in Montreal for a 4 month exchange, visiting Quebec, Washington, Philadelphia and Cuba in that time as well.

After my exchange, I'm travelling to the Rocky Mountains for a week, Mexico for another week and then am planning on visiting New York for two weeks before my flight leaves for Europe at the end of May.

I really enjoy experiencing the differences in lifestyles when I'm visiting new cultures, from small things like walking on the left side of an escalator to bigger differences, like dealing with the snow and negative temperatures!

I like sport (though I do struggle to understand American Football), and I love hanging out with new people - even if its just to chat or play boardgames. I also really enjoy learning about other peoples taste in music so please share!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As you may be able to tell from my profile I've never used this platform before, but it seems like a really cool way to meet new people and experience new cultures from a locals perspective. I'm keen to open myself up to new worldviews, gain local insights into new places and share some of my own culture and experiences! And of course, a place to sleep at night is awesome too :)

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm really open with music so I'll just give one band per genre:
EDM: San Holo
Rap: Ocean Wisdom
Indie/rock: The Shins
Soul: Billy Preston

With movies, I'm a Marvel fan-boy, but I'm down for everything a part from maybe horror (unless you're ok with my screaming...).

My favourite book is 11/22/63, I think I generally prefer fiction.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I came first in Tetris 99 which I'd lie if I said I wasn't proud of, but I think living in Montreal in the snow is the most amazing thing I've done (and seen), very different from the summer I left in Australia. I find it insane how people are able to live in the super cold weather with snowstorms and all that.

Teach, Learn, Share

I only speak English unfortunately but I did pick up a little French, so if you want to learn some French swearwords let me know! I can teach you some piano too since I've played since I was in primary school.

I'd love to learn about life in America, and it would be really awesome if you had advice on things to see and do as I'm winging this leg of the trip and am keen to soak it all up!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I (for some reason) brought my Nintendo Switch with me, so I'd be more than happy to play some games if you want! I can also teach you Australian slang which I'm sure will be very useful in your life :)
