About Me

Maybe the easiest way to describe myself is an introvert—which, contrary to popular belief, does not mean I'm shy. I can be reserved, but I like to think that I can also be easygoing when I feel up to it :) Interacting with people generally saps a lot of energy from me and it can take a while for me to recharge, but I do also love spending time with people and even talking for lengthy periods of time about subjects with room for exploration and discussion.

This may be a good point to mention that my MBTI personality type is INTP—I've heard people say this is BS but I do identify with quite a lot of traits from this type. I enjoy understanding things, which includes hearing what other people think, but the least I hope is that you are open to other opinions and agreeing to disagree!

I also like coffee. A lot.

PHILOSOPHY

I like to live my life saying carpe diem, but this is harder for me than I feel it should be. Nonetheless, as much as I want to seize the day, I see the importance of pacing myself and knowing when to take a step back to relax, so I (try to) enjoy the life around me and don't burn out. I never want to give up striving for every dream I have, big or small, no matter how long it takes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Sadly I am not in a position to offer my couch... but I enjoy getting to know people (even if I'm not very good at it), and will gladly bring you around if you're ever in Singapore!

Interests

I spend a fair amount of time searching for and listening to music, as well as reading. I love drinking coffee, and taking roller coasters, and going for live concerts—rock music and classical alike. I seek thrill, but there is also very few things I love more than spending quiet time at home or with friends. One thing I really love discussing is theories on concepts like happiness and life. I also enjoy a good laugh, especially in the form of Whose Line Is It Anyway ;)

Music, Movies, and Books

My favourite band is the recently disbanded Anberlin, but I also love Copeland, Death Cab For Cutie, and the John Mayer Trio. I've had phases of enjoying Bombay Bicycle Club, Lucy Rose, We Were Evergreen, Leessang, Cœur de Pirate, Explosions in The Sky, and Two Door Cinema Club, amongst maaaaaany others. I like discovering new music, but I tend to immerse myself in an artiste for a period instead of shuffling all the tracks in my library.

My top 3 movies are Jeux d'enfants, Lost in Translation, and Inception. I've recently come to appreciate not just the storylines but the cinematography more, and seeing movies as an experience rather than a mere motion picture... but I'm nowhere near a movie buff!

I love reading books a lot, but I'm not sure if I really have a favourite, which seems weird to me. I do however, enjoy the Artemis Fowl series immensely and think it is severely underrated. If I were to define my favourite books as those I might recommend, then perhaps this list should include The Solitude of Prime Numbers (Paolo Giordano), I Wrote This For You (Iain Thomas), Both Ways Is The Only Way I Want It (Maile Meloy), What I Talk About When I Talk About Running (Haruki Murakami), American Gods (Neil Gaiman), and maybe anything by Chuck Palahniuk.

I'll include some television shows I enjoy watching: Suits (USA), Whose Line Is It Anyway (ABC/CW), Grey's Anatomy (ABC), Running Man (SBS), and The Genius (tvN).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Travelling alone from Berkeley to Salt Lake via Amtrak over a weekend, to see Anberlin at Warped Tour. It was the first time I'd ever travelled on my own, and although I was terrified, that trip really changed me. I'd be glad to share more details—just ask! :)
