About Me

**Quick important update: I just got a cat. So if you have cat allergies or don't like cat please don't send me request.

Hi there. My name is Hùng. Well, it's kind of hard to pronounce so you can call me by my nickname: Kuma (くま). It means 'Bear' in Japanese.

I'm a Vietnamese who currently living and studying in Osaka. I can speak English and Japanese, not fluently, but good enough to get around. And now I really want to learn Chinese (too lazy to begin learning though) so it would be great if you can speak some Chinese.

My place is located in Nishinari Ward. It's 4km away from the centre of Osaka, which is Namba, you can get there in 20 minutes by train, or you can borrow my bicycle to go around and explore the city.

My apartment is quite small but I always try to keep it tidy. If you are going to stay with me, please be as clean and organized as you can.

I'd prefer requests for at least 2 nights so we can have more time to bond (I'm the only one who think this word sounds wrong and weird because it's pronounced similar to 'bone'? ಠ_ಠ). And I don't like the idea of having someone crash at my place just for a night then leave as if my place is nothing more than a motel.

And just to be clear I'm not hosting more than 1 person.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Besides the fact that I want to offer a free-of-charge resting place for surfers 'cause accommodation fee in Japan is quite costly, since my roommate moved out I have the apartment all to my own and even though I LOVE living alone, it's also nice to have someone to chill with once in a while. My ideal Friday night is being lazy and unproductive at home while having someone beside to keep me company. You know, just talking about random shits while enjoying some lofi-music on youtube or watching a movie together with a cold beer in your hand and a slice of pizza in your mouth. I mean, what could beat that?

Music, Movies, and Books

It would be great if you are a films enthusiast as well so we can talk about how much we love films. These guys are some of my all-time favorite directors: David Fincher, Quentin Tarantino, Zack Snyder, Guillermo del Toro, Joon-ho Boong, Isao Takahata, Hayao Mizayaki and the list goes on.

Unpopular opinion: I think Christopher Nolan is way too overrated.

One of my favorite Youtube channel is Every Frame a Painting. You should know this channel if you have interests in film analysis.

I do watch anime, not really a big fan of it though. But quite a voracious manga reader here.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Nothing particularly. One thing about me: I can do a lot of stuffs, good enough to impress people who knows nothing about those stuffs but in reality it's all just basic surface level and I'm not particularly good at anything. Jack of all trades, master of none.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm not sure what I could teach you guys beside Vietnamese and some of my basic Japanese. I'm still trying to be better at Japanese so if you can speak Japanese that would be awesome.

I just bought a digital piano and now I'm trying to learn it by myself as an absolute beginner. If by any chance you know how to play piano and are willing to give me some advices that would be really helpful.

I used to work at an izakaya (Japanese style restaurant), we can come there together for dinner, having some drink over some Japanese food. I worked there before so I know which one is the best haha. (Just one thing: if we eat out, we share the bill. I won't expect you to pay for me so don't expect me to pay for you either.)

Talking about food, I quite like cooking, I just bought a Sous vide cooker and I absolutely love it! If you ever try that thing before and know any good recipe using Sous vide cooker I'd like to hear it.

I love playing billiards (specifically Eight-ball)! Unfortunately for me Japanese people are not the biggest fans of this sport so I don't have anyone to play with me since I came to Japan more than 2 years ago. I've always played alone on my own every time I craved for holding the cue (how sad was that?). I know you didn't come all the way to Japan to play billiards but if you have the same hobby as me I'd appreciate it if we can do some games together!

I like drawing as well so if you're good at drawing maybe you can give me some tips to help me improve my skills.

I also have a 35mm film camera and still trying to learn how to use it. So if anyone has experience in photography, especially in manual camera, you're very welcome.
