About Me

Hi! I am embarking on a lifestyle of adventure and travel. I want to live a life of freedom and love, for every day to be a wild and breathtaking experience that I will cherish forever. I want to expand my mind and horizons, becoming more and more aware of my common human identity with others on this sublime planet. I want to learn about other cultures, other peoples, and other places, discovering the uniqueness inherent in every individual person and place. I want to be deeply engaged with the world and my surroundings, to be more aware than I've ever been.

One of the reasons I am traveling is to learn more about alternative social organization, which is intimately connected to my desires to begin peace activism. I am especially interested in living in anarchist communities. I avoid labels (I think human beings are too complex to fit them), so I don't call myself an anarchist, but I am involved in anarchist communities and find much solidarity there. I think that anarchism addresses global problems such as war, poverty, slavery, and environmental destruction systemically and I find great hope for a brighter and better life and world through anarchist philosophy. I have been studying Afghanistan for the past year, and I am very motivated to work towards solutions to the sufferings that plague that country. Another reason for my choice of this lifestyle is to gain non-American perspectives and understand colonialism and imperialism more deeply.

I want to live a life driven by overflowing love, connected to others and nature. I can't wait to learn more about permaculture, different ways of life, spirituality, natural medicine, farming, other cultures, natural building, and an ever-growing love for life and satisfaction in living (and so many other things! there is so much to learn! :)

I have some experience in working in permaculture. I did WWOOF for a week in British Columbia, Canada in June of 2015 with a self-sustaining, off-the-grid, egalitarian community (thecommonunityproject.com). I spent most of my time working on their earthship build and exploring the surrounding area. That was a truly wonderful experience. I am learning about aquaponics currently.

I also really love trekking and rock climbing, and am most definitely interested in doing those activities throughout my travels. So if you climb let me know! I'll bring my shoes and harness :)

....and so the adventure begins!

Andddd check out my blog! I mostly wrote poetry :) folksarefolks.blogspot.com

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love the idea of cultural exchange based on trust. Together, we can show that humans can be good and trustworthy. I think that Couchsurfing can be a great way for me to meet new people and experience new places in only ways that locals can. I am intending to travel all over Asia, and it is comforting to know that there are friends I can make and places I can stay. I hope to have many mutually beneficial adventures through Couchsurfing!

Music, Movies, and Books

My three favorite authors are C.S. Lewis, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and George Orwell. Lewis is one of the clearest and most profound philosophical writers that I've ever encountered, Fitzgerald makes me feel like I'm absorbed in a gorgeous painting (I just finished reading the Beautiful and the Damned), and Orwell morbidly stimulates my political thought.

Music: all kinds. I like hip hop a lot. Immortal technique, hopsin, Eminem, Macklemore, flobots, propaganda, ces cru, mayday!, beautiful eulogy, purity ring, chvrches, the fleet foxes, josh garrels, radio head, Coldplay, two door cinema club, owl city, the Beatles, Michael buble, Regina Spektor, Lucy rose, alt J, Sufjan Stevens

Movies: I like philosophical/ideological movies. I appreciate film that is good art it makes me think. The village, Selma, la vita e belle, the sound of music, mr smith goes to Washington, battle for Seattle, the lord of the rings. 1984, glory,

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Summited Mt Shasta in Northern California. Saw one of the most gorgeous sunsets ever there. Sort of ran down the mountain and then ate pasta on mt Shasta :p. I've also fire danced in the ocean. That was pretty wonderful

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: guitar, Pashto, English, bit of gardening and permaculture ideas, bit of climbing, bit of ukulele (which I brought with me instead of my guitar). I know a decent amount about Afghanistan. I know how to make some simple vegan dishes

Learn: everything! But really, everything.

I do want to learn Danish

Share: serendipity :)
