ABOUT ME

I have worked as a school librarian/media specialist for most of my career. I have also taught Italian and English, and have done a lot of translation work from Italian to English. I love art (mostly European), music (mostly jazz and classical), good food (mostly organic and vegetarian), good comedy (Woody, Bill Maher, Larry David, SNL, Gary Shandling, Groucho, etc) Most of my traveling has been concentrated on Italy, but I also love the Southwest (Arizona, Nevada) Hawaii, the Northeast (New York, Baltimore, D.C.) and British Columbia. HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am new to CS, but I'd like to start off as a traveler meeting and staying with CS hosts. I now have a sofa bed in my living room that I can offer for up to 2 travelers (a couple) or a single person.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE: none yet. BUT I've traveled extensively with the friendship organization, Servas, both abroad at in the U.S. I have many Servas friends with whom I've stayed, and I can provide references from them, until I can get some CS refs. To join Servas there is a sort of vetting process -- interview, references and letter of introduction. I've been a Servas member since 1994.

Right now (2015) my favorite film is "Birdman." I like a wide variety of films, such as old classics, good dramas and comedies (such as Woody Allen, Judd Apatow). Music: almost all, but especially jazz, opera, classic, musica leggera italiana, Bob Dylan. I read more non-fiction (on many different topics) than fiction. Right now I'm reading Robert Stones novel, The Damascus Gate.

I translated, from Italian to English, much of the text in the exhibit at Volandia, an aeronautics museum at Malpensa Airport in Milan, Italy.

My husband and I stayed in Rome at the American Academy two different times as visiting artist/scholar. It is an amazing place with incredible people. I've traveled to Italy 24 times, and have also visited several other European countries.

I am very willing to participate in minor household and garden chores. I can cook well, especially vegetarian dishes (although I can cook some fish and fowl dishes). I'd be glad to share my knowledge of the countries I have visited, particularly Italy, of which I have a good deal of knowledge. I can also help you learn Italian.
