Overview
About Me
Hi! I'm a native of Washington State by way of Georgia, Florida and Montana, and I am engaged to a wonderful lady named Kate. I have been practicing archery since I was a wee lad, and I make and sell fine wooden arrows (check out the finest wares in all of Skyrim at arrowsbyian.wix.com/home ). I play the flute, and I love aquariums and fish. Within the past couple years I've gotten really into D&D and have stepped up into the DM roll over the past year. I have a serious nerdy side, and in addition to geeking out about all the things already mentioned or alluded to, I love literature and rhetoric. I taught composition at WWU for two years, and I really want to go back and get my PhD once my fiancée finishes her Masters.
I enjoy fine wines and craft beer, and sharing fine wines and craft beer with friends! I also really enjoy food. My favorite kind of food is food in my mouth, and my second favorite kind of food is food on its way to my mouth. I have a very friendly and easygoing disposition, and I am pretty liberal and interested in feminist theory and queer theory. I enjoy doing rhetorical analysis of contemporary politics and critical theories and getting into deep, yet congenial discussions.
I also have the best cat IN THE WORLD. She likes to be held and perch on your shoulders and purrs if you interact with her gently in any way. And she loves strangers. I love cats. Surprisingly, my cat and fish get along quite well.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Right now, I am couchsurfing because I moved to Ann Arbor to lock down a job and find a place to live. During this transition, I need to find some people that will let me couchsurf!
Once I settle in, however, I look forward to hosting people! I've met a lot of people in my life from different perspectives, and I really enjoy learning from listening to new people about their lives and perspectives.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like a lot of music and my tastes sort of change, like most people's do, I feel. Right now, some of my favorites are tUnE-yArDs, Of Monsters and Men, Mumford and Sons, and The Postal Service. And anything that might reasonably come up if you were to make a Pandora station with one of those bands.
I also really enjoy classical, too, and my musical taste is very omnivorous.
My favorite author is Milan Kundera. Apart from his ouvre, I really enjoyed The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Moby-Dick, the novels by the Brontë sisters, Romantic poetry, courtly romances such as Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and the Lais of Marie de France, The Magic Mountain, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall down, Then We Came to the End, Castle Rackrent... Eh, the list goes on and on. I have a personal library of all my favorites and a long list of things that I still need to read. I am a book adulterer, and I am "currently reading" 9 or so books according to Goodreads.
I don't enjoy TV or movies much, but I am into Rick and Morty, Bob's Burgers, and Game of Thrones. I really enjoy plays and, when I can make it happen, going to the opera. I recently just saw Avenue Q, which was hilarious! Some of my favorite plays are Avenue Q, Arcadia by Stoppard, Hamlet, As You Like It, and The Language Archive. When it comes to movies, my favorites are things that make have teh feels, like Wreck it Ralph, Up and Inside Out. But I also enjoy Lord of the Rings, of course. I DID NOT enjoy The Hobbit... >.>
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Well, I taught sixth grade for an entire year despite having no experience or formal training, and I made it out with most of my will to live intact!
Teach, Learn, Share
I love teaching people archery and fletching, and I also love teaching people about keeping fancy-pants home aquariums. I love sharing my skills with all of the above, too, and I love sharing my knowledge of craft beer, wine and cheese (I used to be a cheesemonger). I always love learning from other people. One thing I would enjoy learning more about is astrology. I have a professional curiosity with astrology that mostly comes out of studying medieval documents, but I know that a lot of people are seriously into it (at least they are in the northwest), and I would enjoy discussing it with someone who is knowledge about it contemporarily.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share good conversation with hosts, both deep and light, as well as some good stories and the knowledge that I have cultivated about the things that I have interest in.
