About Me
"I swear some stuff you just see better from further away,
And I think I communicate best, yeah, the less I say,
And I can't dance if the band can't play"
-Ani Difranco
A lot of who you are depends on where you were raised and by whom, and I was raised primarily by a Berkeley hippie-turned-businesswoman in California, and then a no-nonsense feminist lesbian in New England when I was a teenager. They sent me to Waldorf School. You do the math.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm recovering from an acute case of cabin fever brought on by Boston's worst winter on record, which also damaged my place of residence such that I cannot live there this summer. Thus I have made the open road my home and intend to see most of what I have not seen of the contiguous USA (as well as a few places I have not visited since childhood).
Interests
It's so much a matter of "what" as "with whom" that interests me. And I'm independent enough that a solo hike might be more enjoyable than a trip to New Zealand with the wrong person, though I'd much rather have good company.

Music, Movies, and Books
Ani Difranco, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, FischerSpooner, Gershwin, Porter, Sachmo, Hendrix, Toots, CSNY, CCR... I'm told the clinical term for this is "picklectic."
I enjoy most movies that are character- or plot-driven - even the ones that rely on action and witty one-liners. I draw the line at gooey rom-coms, "found footage," and gimmick comedies (I'm looking at you, Adam Sandler).
I've always enjoyed reading scifi, from Asimov to Crichton to Herbert to Adams, but recently I've developed a taste for historical fiction and high fantasy: the past 5 years I've read mostly Patrick O'Brian and George R. R. Martin, and I just finished my first Ken Follett read.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I used to be a pilgrim at Plimoth Plantation where I dressed in canvas and wool Stewart-Era clothing (even on the hottest days of the year) and pretended it was 1627 for 40 hours a week.
Teach, Learn, Share
Most of what I know can't be taught, but I'm always learning by observation.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Tales of adventure, mostly. I'll cook if you're feeling brave, as nearly 2 years of living alone has left me somewhat out of practice, and though I'm not vegetarian, my ex is, so that's the only cooking I ever learned.
