ABOUT ME

I love learning about new music and films and obsessing over interesting subcultures in those areas but what I really love is reading and writing. I've wanted to write since I was in fourth grade, when I first tried to write a novel (I gave up after about a month). I never stopped reading and thinking about stories though and talking about stories and storytelling remain my favorite topics of conversation; if you wanna engage me in a conversation, just find a book we've both read and analyze it, and I could think and discuss it for days. I like other stuff too, like ultimate frisbee, going on adventures and going fishing, but reading is really at my core.

I find little bits of truth where I can and I keep them in my mind, but I don't have a single overriding philosophy of life

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm travelling extensively for the next four months and then I'm going to college so I don't know how many opportunities I'll have to host people in the immediate future; mostly I'm just grateful others are willing to take me in

none yet, but I hope to have some good experiences to talk about before this trip is done

Interesses

I love finding new ways of doing nothing; I like going fishing with friends with a backpack full of snacks, poker chips and cards, but no bait. I like going on adventures or making ordinary things into adventures. I like reading and videogames I can play with my friends on the couch (stuff like mariokart or halo). I like ultimate frisbee and other sports, but ultimate is the only one I'm really good at.

Músicas, Filmes e Livros

I love classic kung fu flicks and the Rush Hour movies were my childhood favorites. Friday is another great one. I like pirates of the Caribbean-I've most of the first movie pretty much memorized. I also like the Godfather movies, anything by Kurosawa, anything my Miyazaki and whoever it was who created both Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Science of Sleep. I can't believe I almost forgot--Space Jam!

I really love discovering new music in all genres but seven of my favorite bands are: The Wu-Tang Clan, The Allman Brothers Band, Outkast, Bob Dylan and The Band, The Beatles, Thelonious Monk and Parliament-Funkadelic. I like a lot of rap and hip-hop, especially stuff from early nineties and before. I like Soul and R&B like the Meters and War and The Coasters and Sly and the Family Stone. I like some good jazz and all the great classic rock bands. In terms of contemporary music I like Wilco, The Strokes, Amy Winehouse, and a lot of underground rap.

Books are where I really lose it; I've read more than a book a week-often two or three-my whole life so trying to pull three or four to list as my favorites would be really hard, but Harry Potter has a special place in my heart. All the Bronte sisters' novels are great (Wuthering Heights was my favorite), but other than that I really don't care much for that era of British lit. I love Mark Twain and Don Delillo and Cormac McCarthy and what I've read of David Foster Wallace and...and so much more. I love reading
