About Me

There’s a lot of photos about Taiwan in “Photos”. If you’re interested in Taiwan. You can check them out!

Hi, I’m Ian, an exchange student from Taiwan currently on exchange in the United States. I’m really happy you’re taking the time to read my introduction — I want to use this space not just to introduce myself as a traveler, but to share a bit about my story, dreams, and passions, so you can get to know me as a person.

I’m someone who loves adventure. This year, I came to Texas as an exchange student, and for me, it’s been more than just an academic exchange — it’s been a life adventure. I’ve stayed with two different host families here, and that experience has taught me how to adapt to different cultures, how to be a thoughtful guest, and how to experience the warmth of home beyond blood or borders — it’s about respect, understanding, and genuine connection. Even though this will be my first time using CouchSurfing, I already have experience living with people from different backgrounds, and I understand how important it is to respect someone’s home, follow their house rules, and approach the experience with gratitude.

I’m curious about the world and love learning. I once drove from Texas all the way to Las Vegas, passing through many states, and that road trip gave me a deeper sense of America’s diversity — it also fueled my desire to explore the world even more. My next big adventure is a trip to Europe, where I plan to visit 13 countries, including Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, and Italy. I’ll stay in each city for two to three days to soak in the local culture and everyday life. For me, this journey isn’t just about sightseeing — it’s about personal growth and discovery.

Besides traveling, I’m passionate about learning and sharing knowledge. I have a particular interest in Chinese philosophy and AI technology, and while in the U.S., I’ve even volunteered at churches and nonprofit organizations to teach older adults how to use AI tools. I believe that the true value of learning comes from sharing it with others — when we pass on what we know, that’s when knowledge becomes truly meaningful.

I also love challenging myself and being outdoors. Hiking, running, and cycling are some of my favorite activities. My grandfather was a mountain expert in Taiwan, and while I’ve never reached his level of skill, the love for nature has been deeply ingrained in me. For me, hiking isn’t just exercise — it’s a way to connect with nature, slow down, and reconnect with my own heartbeat.

Personality-wise, I’m an outgoing yet thoughtful person. I love meeting new people, chatting, and especially listening to others’ stories. I’ve always believed that no two lives are the same, and everyone’s journey is like an amazing book waiting to be read. That’s one of the things I love most about CouchSurfing — it’s not just about finding a place to stay, but about creating real human connections.

Because of my past experience with host families and solo travel, I fully understand what it means to be a respectful guest. I’ll be mindful of your space and your rules, and I’m happy to help out with chores or bring a small gift from Taiwan so we can share a bit of cultural exchange. I also enjoy meaningful conversations — whether it’s about travel, culture, philosophy, or just casual topics, I’m always happy to listen and share.

I understand that usually you prefer requests at least two weeks in advance, so I wanted to reach out early not only to make a request but also to get to know you a bit first. Even if it doesn’t work out for you to host me, I hope we can still connect and become friends, because I believe that every encounter on the road is a gift life gives us.

If I were to describe myself in a few words, I’d say I’m curious, open-minded, thoughtful, passionate, eager to learn, and happy to give back. I believe that the true value of life comes from experience and connection, not from possessions or comparison. When I travel, I’m not just looking to see sights or take photos — I want to understand how people live and hear the stories that you won’t find in any travel guide.

Thank you so much for reading this long introduction! If you’re open to hosting me, I’d be incredibly grateful; but even if you just want to chat, exchange stories, or grab a coffee, I’d love that as well. I look forward to meeting you somewhere in this amazing world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think I pretty like explore different things. I have strong desire for exploring. When I was in Taipei/Taiwan, I always walk around to see where I haven’t been before. It’s just a sense of satisfaction, I love doing that for no reason. I think that’s always why I’m an exchange student to the U.S. because it’s a great opportunity for me to explore and experience.

So… the reason why I’m here is the same. I want to met new people. Exploring what local people/life looks like. By talking to local(maybe it’s you) I think I can earn not only cultural experience, also a cherished friendship. So I think there’s no reason why I’m not here.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I’m exchanging to the U.S during 24-25.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My U.S. experience (I have been to 10 states in the U.S. within a year. So I experience a lot. Roadtrip, Hawaii, etc… I really appreciate my host family in the US. I can’t do those things without them. And you know what? Maybe you’re my next host. We can make our next amazing story just like what I got from my U.S family. And being a lifetime friends.

Chinese culture. I study a lot of books about Chinese culture. Mmm… there’s too much to say and is pretty hard to use text to express. So I would skip.
