About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To help travellers as so many helped me as I was travelling.

ABOUT ME

My name is Ian Wright, I'm from Toronto Canada, and now have returned here finally after about 8 years of travelling. I'm currently pursuing a career as a professional watercolour artist. I've been through many countries, I met many people and stayed in many places on many couches with many kind people who assisted me in my travels. Now that I have finally returned home and have an entire empty house I feel its time to help other travelers as I was helped myself.
I much enjoy showing people around, and my schedule is flexible, so I'm happy to assist in any way I can to help visitors have a good experience in Toronto.

PHILOSOPHY

Give on to others that which you would want for yourself.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I will participate by providing a sleeping space of course, and will do my best to show you around the city if I have time. At the very least I can give recommendations on what to see, and how to get there.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

8 years of travelling mostly in Europe , I lived for 2 years on the couch of a friend in Rotterdam, then various places all over europe. I believe seeing a country from the point of view of the locals is by far the greatest way to see a city, and would like for other's to have that same experience.

Music, Movies, and Books

Some of my favorite authors: Alan Watts, Dostoevski, Tererence McKenna, Ram Dass, Wayne Dyer, Tolstoy, Victor Hugo.
Music: Classical, ambient, 80s rap, 90s dance, and most forms of electronic dance music.
Movies: Documentaries mostly. Too many to name.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Watching volcanoes erupting in the hills of Guatemala, DJ'ing on a stage before 5000 people in Eindhoven, visiting the shrines of Kyoto, and the Atomic bomb dome of Hiroshima, Snorkeling between the continents of North America and Europe in Iceland. They were all breathtaking so I can't decide on one.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm also interested in this program to attempt to define a new way of interacting with others. In a more one one one way rather then seeing an uncaring world full of strangers we must be afraid of. I love to meet people of different cultures with different languages and learn and share with them. I speak English, French, Dutch and German, and a spattering of a few other languages, so I'm always interested in expanding my horizons.

Belgium, England, France, Germany, Guatemala, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United States
