About Me

To share the fun and entertaining "darker sides of life" with my fellow monster fans!

My passions are dark tourism, horror, philosophy, travel, graveyards and a fun blend of the lot.

As of Friday the 13th in September, 2013, I have left my 9-5 and apartment behind me, and begun a MONSTROUS research project. It involves one year of researching multiple forms of "dark tourism" around the world, including haunted attractions, dark-themed festivals, venues and events based on dark-themed characters. This research is for my next book, "Drawn to the Dark," which will demonstrate how these venues and events have the capacity to help the people of their communities.

To follow these mad adventures, please check out my website,, or head to "Monsters and Books" on Facebook!

"Don't dream it: be it." -Frank N. Furter, The Rocky Horror Picture Show

"Why don't you do what you dream, Bastian?" -The Childlike Empress, The Neverending Story

"There is no life I know to compare with your imagination. Living there you'll be free, if you truly wish to be." -Willy Wonka

"Out there, somewhere, just out of sight, there's a world that blazing with light. Ain't each man alive got the right to stray just a might from the straight and narrow? Shoot through the night like a flaming arrow?" -P.T. Barnum

"One way to get the most out of life is to look upon it as an adventure" - William Feather

"We are, in Carl Rogers` terms, always becoming, never finally arrived." -Martin Bloom

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Love to host and surf, see and experience, share and learn with crazy cats around the world. Love you guys!!

I love hosting and meeting people from around the globe to a block away. Since 2009 I've had amazing experiences with fellow travelers and hosts that have shown me the importance of sharing, openness, and community in everyday life. I look forward to many more experiences, hosting, surfing and friendships to come!

I love to read, write, travel, teach, play tennis, rollerblade, go to haunted attractions and haunt conferences, explore graveyards, and catch every horror flick that hits the drive-in.

I'm also hopelessly addicted to coffee and TEDTalks - but they do make a great pair!
