Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

By hosting and doing some marketing :))) I tell everybody I meet about CS and how amazing this project is...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I started my CS experience on August 2009. I have never surfed yet, but I have hosted 54 people so far… and I have to say it has been a great experience. I have met wonderful people, some of them definitely potential friends… :)

Then, end of September – beginning of October 2009 I had a different CS experience… which reaffirmed my very positive opinion of this project… I went to Rome for an admission test at La Sapienza University and for some endless bureaucratic procedures it involves… which, in my condition as a wheelchair user, weren’t easy to follow at all… Public Transport and infrastructure in Rome is not accessible for wheelchairs… So I suddenly found myself locked in a Hotel without any solution… and started to feel kind of hopeless… It was about to become one of the worst experiences of my life…

The solution was actually there… it just took me a few days to figure it out… All I had to do was write a message to a bunch of Couch Surfing people…

The very next day I started to receive phone calls of people offering me their help… They drove me everywhere around the city in the various offices I needed to go… and I managed to do all the things I had to ONLY thanks to them…
And not only they helped me solve my problems, but also offered me some “tourist life” showing me around wonderful Rome, going to the movies or going out for drinks… I felt surrounded by friends…

So finally, what seemed to be about to become a really negative experience, became an extremely positive one… I truly had a great time… AND I’M SO GRATEFUL!!!!!

So, I want to thank from my heart CS Rome… and in particular my new and beloved friends: Francesco, Giorgio, Piercarlo, Paolo and Flavia… and all the very nice people I met through them… :)
