About Me

CURRENT MISSION

slowly tackling the ever growing list of places I want to go.

ABOUT ME

I'm not good at the "me in a short and witty sentence" stuff. I like going out and sitting in pubs talking the night away, I like reading books that make me stay up all night, I love learning new theories about our culture and society and I love finding other theories that say the complete opposite. I like to plan stuff and I'm so happy when I get to carry out the plan! I overuse exclamation marks and make appalling typing errors when excited

PHILOSOPHY

Work to live, don't live to work. Why do we need more, when enough is just that. Learn until your brain won't work any more, accept that you'll never understand everything, but keep trying!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm primarily a surfer of couches as up until recently I've been in shared accommodation where not everyone was a member. Hopefully once we've finished decorating we'll be welcoming hosts!
And I'm starting to get more involved with the groups I a member in, especially as the Leeds group is so busy and eventful.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I love couch surfing - I used it while I was in America on exchange to make budget travelling happen. Thanks to everyone in the States and Canada for letting me stay, I loved it.

October 2006, Philadelphia - Ariel Coff - my first couchsurfing host
Novemeber 2006, State College - Ally, Zach - met for coffee to meet a fellow State College CSer.
December 2006, New York City - Rob, Aimee, Kristin - met them all for drinks over a weekend, made a big city a friendly place.
December 2006, State College - Emily, Apu - met for a small CS lunch.
March 2007, Quebec City - Hugues - spent a great 3 nights surfing and trying to speak french.
March 2007, Montreal - Faye - stayed here for three nights when I went North for Spring Break
March 2007, Toronto - Jennyanne - told Jen to join hehe, as we started to get excited about travelling!
April 2007, Philadelphia - Jeremy - surfed with when I went to see the Kaiser Chiefs.
May 2007, Chicago - Jen and Glen - start of my tour of the states (or some of it). Their first surfers we hopefully made a fabulous impression of the community.
May 2007, St Louis - Hannah - surfed one night in St Louis but got to go to a party at the amazing City Museum!
May 2007, Memphis - Chris - not through the site, but a friend of a friend let us stay for three nights in the fantastic Memphis!!
May 2007, Nashville - Johnathan - surfed for a couple of nights as the tour of the states came to a close.
September 2007, Leeds - Seb and more - I hosted Seb for the Leeds gathering. My first couchsurfer!
May 2009, Paris - Pierre - stayed with Pierre at the beginning of my two week interrailing holiday.

Interests

I love to travel - and I don't just mean going on holiday. I like the journey and all that it involves, the planning, the train/flight/drive, and of course getting there. I love cultural history so visiting museums is always on the list of things to do, but then I like to simply walk about and get the feel of the place.
I've recently started learning to kayak and find ways to get a little more active with some self taught yoga and a new found interest in jogging - leading up to taking part in the Race for Life this June.

Music, Movies, and Books

Most loved genre of music is Indie, though I listen to my share of pop. I like all sorts of films as it says above. My new favourite book is The Book of Laughter and Forgetting by Milan Kundera, though I´m nearly finished reading The Unbearable Lightness of Being and I´m not sure which is better, both works of genius!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Driving home across the Pennines, with the sun setting in front of me ... the world was pink, red, orange and green ... it was beautiful and I think its important to remember how wonderful home is as well as finding out how great the rest of the world is.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can make great vegetable soup. I´d love to improve my french and am hopefully starting an evening class soon. And I think everyone should travel with Duck Tape, or anyother well known brand, it fixes everything!
