About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Abandoning CS and secretly hoping that bewelcome will be like CS in the very beginning (like some secret society of incredibly friendly and nice people)

ABOUT ME

calm bedhead, mostly happy, sometimes tired, sometimes energetic, sometimes confused, sometimes lost, sometimes melancholy, self-titled musician, enthusiastic but helplessly bad painter...

i have a new job that largely consists of reading books, discussing with people, thinking about how do to things and writing that down. i like it. i am pretty obsessed with bikes. i ride to work by bike every day. i grew up in a small town surrounded by mountains. i like mountains. my girlfriend says i have no common sense neither a sense of orientation. i like music alot. i play a couple of instruments and playing them makes me happy. but i don't play them as often as i'd like to. i think there are many nice and amazing people in the world, but also a staggering number of ignorant, self-centered people (this is not news). i started writing a journal because i like to remember the places my life takes me to and the things i see. sometimes i miss being a bike messenger. i sleep better on my belly and when i sleep on my back i snore. sometimes my sentimentality really bugs me. i've been watching this woodpecker in our garden but i haven't seen him in a while now maybe he's finally headed south. do woodpeckers head south? i don't even know... i'm always late for catching trains. the ability to pack everything i need in my life into a messengerbag is more central for me than for most other people. a clean t-shirt probably means more to me than for most other people.

Music, Movies, and Books

MOVIES: i like movies with (a) spaceships (b) melancholy stories (c) supernatural creatures and (d) bill murray. i also like jarmusch, wes anderson, coppola (old AND young), tim burton and michel gondry even though they don't always include everything from a to d.
(my girlfriend accuses me of this being "her" favorite movies and me simply copying her, well, except for the spaceships)

MUSIC: something like this: bedhead, the new year, sigur ros, mùm, explosions in the sky, mono, don caballero, grails, hrsta, godspeed you black emperor, monorchid, rachel's, weakerthans, q and not u, set fire to flames, stars of the lid, labradorford, dead texan, fugazi, lungfish, the lapse, les savy fav, blonde redhead, pelican, a silver mt. zion, sparklehorse. in general i like alot of bands on T&G records, dischord, southern or fatCat.

BOOKS: many many many. (i'm so unusual)

Lately I've rediscovered the joy and beauty of independent, DIY music and DIY art. Stuff that is done for no other reason than the people actually wanting to do it and them starting from ground up. I like that. And big record labels and media companies distroy the creativity because they're interested in generating revenue...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

"Hmm... yes, I can do it, but it's gonna taste like shit!" reply of a server working at a london pizzeria on the question of whether it was possible to get a vegan pizza without cheese and just vegetables...

working at southern records in london: music everyday, concerts every other day, and really nice people.

when i was in finland and it was getting winter, i always had the same thought when leaving the house: oh my god, it's COLD and but it smells GOOD. i love that smell of cold fresh autumn air so much.
in summer i saw the sunset at 12.30 and the sunrise three hours later. and in winter i once saw the most amazing red-orange sunset at two in the afternoon.
in general winter in finland was an amazing experience. it was devastating and depressing. it was amazing.

another amazing thing was to live in hamburg in a ridiculously small room together with my girlfriend for two months and to have the best time. it was our little universe. oh it was bliss.

alleycat racing always was great fun although those days are long over...

Teach, Learn, Share

i could teach you how to cook some good vegetarian lasagne and my girlfriend could teach you how to bake the probably best chocolate cakes ever.

tell me about your favorite music and i tell you about mine.

besides that i'm pretty good at forgetting things, misplacing things, getting awfully confused at times or crashing my bike, but that's probably not something you want to get to know...

finally, if there's a painter, or photographer, or drawer, or graffiti artist, or film maker, or writer: i would be happy if you could show me some tricks to progress from five-year old paintings to something that looks a bit more like "the real world".

also, if somebody could teach me some bike-mechanic stuff that would be pretty good since it happens every now and again that i dismount my bike and i don't know how to put it together again.

Since we're running a screenprinting workshop as well, we'd be more than happy to show that to anybody who is interested.
