About Me

To win the lottery so I can live out of my car

Hiya. I'm Impy...or Jen...or Jenbob...our whatever the heck you want to call me. I'm a conservation photographer (www.jlgould.com), travel blogger (http://thiswomanwanders.wordpress.com) and artist (recycled art, etc).

I'm lucky enough to combine my favorite things with my work: camping, hiking, photography, road tripping, meeting new people and seeing new places. I travel as much as possible, but haven't gotten further than the US and Canada yet, though I've covered a good bit of both. :) I can't wait to tackle the world!

I think honestly speaking one's mind prevents more problems than it causes. I believe knowing who you are, or being ever-willing to figure out who that person is, should be an integral part of our day to day lives. Being real in the face of a shallow society makes things more interesting.

Personal responsibility. I live my life making the best decisions I can for myself without concerning myself with the way others choose to live their lives.

If I'm to change anything it will be through example, not by preaching my own ideals at people. If I make the world a better place by being in it, its by being true to myself and embracing who I am. No one else can do that. There's only one me as there is only one you.

Be undefinable.

The only way to figure out who you are is by finding new experiences. Good or bad, they help define and refine who you are by the way you deal with them. New friendships, new adventures, new levels of boredom, heartbreaks and joy, it all counts for something.

"Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, but asking others to live as you wish to live." -Oscar Wilde

Also, Elvis knows the meaning of life. You just have to find the right Elvis.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

I've surfed a bit and attended quite a few meetups (at home and on my travels). I've been involved in organizing local meetups/happy hours.

Through CS I've met people of profound thought and existence. I've met adventurers with tales to tell and homebodies with welcome to give. I've experienced cities through the people that live there. I've been tempted to the road by those that travel it. :)

Photography, art (but generally not the museum type), wildlife, Road Trips, music, nature, camping, reading, Thrift Stores, coffee, breweries, recycled art, zombies, weird drawings, people, campfires, drinking beer around campfires, drinking coffee around campfires, drinking wine around campfires, not falling into campfires, listening to live music around campfires, national parks, veganism, finding a vegan cheese alternative that might actually taste like cheese, sock monkies, wandering, fraggles, getting lost, connecting with people, live music, owls and mushrooms, randomness, recycling, travel

Music, Movies & Books

Movies: I probably watch too many. Favorites being Pride & Prejudice, The Stand and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.

Music: Everything. Every genre has its genius and I want to hear it all.

Books: I read. Urban fantasy, post-apocalyptic, classic romance and environmental/vegan non-fiction are the current favorites, but I try not to limit myself.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

While camping out in Montana I had the rare opportunity to photograph a grizzly sow with four cubs. I hadn't known til then that grizzlies will adopt the young of another bear if that bear becomes incapable of caring for her young. Watching the little runt of the group scramble to keep up with its older siblings, and how the sow would pause and patiently wait for him to catch up, I was struck with how universal love is. Love isn't just a sentient thing, but also a instinctual thing. Our capacity to love has no bounds, so when we guard ourselves against it or close ourselves off from it, we limit our own potential.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd love to hear how others have grown and what they've learned through travel and meeting other people.

I would like to learn about mixing music. One morning I woke up with a mash-up of Animal Collective and Maroon 5 in my head. Its been playing there ever since. Maybe if I create a digital version it will depart. :|

I'm a pretty decent vegan chef and have a few killer recipes in my back-pocket (tested and approved by die-hard omnivores). Cheesecake, deviled hummus, maraschino beer bread...if I can get my hands on the ingredients, you can get your hands on some good eats.
