ABOUT ME

While studying in Athens, Georgia, Cameron worked with local employee groups, immigration empowerment organizations, and conducted research about political violence in the Americas. In 2009, Cameron combined a 4-month trip across South America with a semester as an exchange student in Montevideo in order to round out his academic experience. After graduating from UGA, Cameron went on to join the Peace Corps and served in Senegal, West Africa. As an agriculture volunteer, he focused on learning about traditional Senegalese agriculture, and worked with local Forest Service members, NGO's, and a government-run seed bank. He also taught techniques for improving field crop and garden yields. While in Senegal, Cameron studied West African history, Pulaar culture, and became interested in the growing links between Latin America and Africa. Since returning to the United States in December, Cameron has been working for Refugee Family Services as an after-school instructor, helping children of recently-arrived refugees in the Atlanta area adjust, integrate, and catch up academically. From travel in Latin America and West Africa, Cameron speaks Spanish, French, Pulaar and Wolof. In the fall, Cameron will be applying to study Geography at the graduate level.
