ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Ingrid, from Melbourne, Australia. I'm traveling for ~9months around Europe, and have heard great things about the experience of couch surfing.
I'm a very friendly girl, and am very easy-going...I do my best to roll with whatever life throws at me. I'm clean and tidy, and I appreciate the importance of respect for housemates/residents, and respect of a household and personal space.
I am not a wild party animal, but do like going out for a few drinks, especially when travelling. I am not a rowdy or obnoxious drinker.

PHILOSOPHY

During my mini-existential crisis several years ago I concluded that life is meaningless, so one has to create their own meaning. I chose to run with always doing my best to enjoy myself, usually doing things like those listed in my interests, amongst a few other things like creating and appreciating art, dancing, reading in a park or cafe, lying in the sun, climbing up high things, watching movies etc.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am officially a couch-surfing newbie, but have unofficially couch-surfed with friends at home and abroad, and have been struck by the kindness and generosity of people. I love doing my best to repay these kindnesses with as much good conversation as I can muster, and food, if they are willing to brave my cooking.

兴趣

I am fascinated by people, and love talking and getting to know people. I love to travel as I think it's a great way to learn about yourself, but it's also a wonderful way to find different ways of doing things right.
I also love food...a lot. Eating good local food, and good food in general (I will even often tolerate mediocre food), is one of the most important parts of my trip.
I do love exercise and being active. If I can't get at a gym, I will get on a bike, and if I can't get on a bike, I will run...I'm not sure what I'd do if I couldn't use my legs, but I'm sure I'd find a way.

Music: jazz, blues, swing predominantly, but I'll listen to just about anything
Books: Life of Pi, the Dice Man, anything a bit disturbing and unsettling (American Psycho, Stephen King in general), and epic tales (Lonesome Dove, Stephen King in general, and I'm part way through the Game of Thrones series (like everyone else))
Movies: nostalgia films (Singin' in the Rain), Martin Scorsese. I generally prefer quality TV, eg: Dexter

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I often love the simple moments, like picnics in parks, running into random strangers and old friends etc.

A recent, but simple moment that was glorious for me was yesterday in Riommagiore, in Cinque Terre, Italy. Some new friends and I bought fresh fried calamari in a cone (!). It was delicious and delicate and we then went at drank wine in a cliff-side bar whilst watching the sunset :)

A more visually awe-inspiring moment came in Glendalough in Ireland. I got up for a run in the morning and ended up in a tremendous gorge, where the cliffs rose up on either side and looked like waves of rocks and boulders about to crash down on me (obviously the didn't...I would have been pretty dead). Seeing Billy goats there improved the experience out of sight as well :)

I have knowledge on psychology and would happily talk about it until the end of time.
I also have a recently discovered, slightly geeky thirst for learning about grammar (of my own language and of new languages). It's fascinating stuff!!
