Обо мне
I am second year university in History and International Development at McGill U in Montréal. I am originally Romanian but have lived in Montréal since the age of 2 and a half. Since I was young I've wished to see the world and meet people from all around who could allow me to hear the different melody of their tongue, smell the fragrances of their food, taste the rich and flavourful traditional meals, but most importantly allow me to discover their history and reality. Living in Montréal has allowed me to realize the diversity that lies beyond the Canadian borders and has instigated this desire to get to know these worlds and know them beyond books and movies but to actually experience them in order to further allow a deeper and more meaningful understanding of these realities so different from my own.
I am passionate about history, art, and literature: I read these three subjects avidly. My favourite period in history is the Spanish Civil War—a historical event too often undervalued. Among my favourite artists are Dalí, Chagall, Klimt, Basquiat, and Haring. As for authors, I'm eternally enamoured with Proust and Dostoevsky who I just recently read and fell in love with.
Что привело меня на Couchsurfing
Meeting people and interacting with different cultures is one of the best thrills in life, be it at home or abroad. I've started travelling independently of parents and school organized trips last year. I went around Europe for three months with friends and absolutely adored it. This year, I've decided to take on exploring other parts of Europe on my own and wish, in doing so, to be pushed even further to interact with the people and the culture of the countries I'll be visiting. For this very reason I'm on Couchsurfing because I believe it'll allow me to truly get a sense of the culture I'm exploring and to appreciate in a completely genuine way the people welcoming me.

Музыка, кино и книги
For music, I am less of a connoisseur than I am for movies and books; however I am absolutely not difficult when it comes to my taste in music. Seeing as I don't know much, I love new discoveries and adding tunes to my list and that, thankfully, keep growing. :)
For movies, it can be an enormous list, but I absolutely adore Almodóvar and Tarantino movies. They are my two favourites directors. I also particularly enjoy Xavier Dolan's cinematographic style and Guillermo del Toro's particular world and sense of the Spanish history. I enjoy the occasional French comedies, which are done with such a comic grace that their value never fades. One of my favourite movies of all time is Blue is Warmest Colour which, despite instigating the ache of real life love stories, remains one of my go to movies when uncertain of the evening entertainment choice. One of my guilty pleasures is Devil Wears Prada, a movie I watched when I was very young and which remained close to my heart until this day. (An example to illustrate my love for cinematography and the Spanish Civil War, I did my end of year 25 mins presentation on the difference in the representation of the Republicans of the Spanish Civil War between Spanish movies done during the war, during Franco's dictatorship, and during the post-Franco period; a very inspiring and deeply intellectually gratifying research 😊).
As for books, I could go on for days and days about books. I always have one with me wherever I go. No matter if the scenery is completely unfavourable to a little reading, I can't help myself from bringing one. I read any kinds of books: from Classics to author's correspondances to history to philosophy to science; I really enjoy everything except science-fiction, which I have a little trouble swallowing. To get a sense of my reading habits here are the books I brought for this summer trip (it might seem a lot but again I read wherever I go, at any time and force myself to find a little time in the day for a couple of pages): Baudelaire's Le Spleen de Paris, Rilke's Letters to a Young Poet, Goethe's The Sorrows of Young Werther, Princess Palatine's Letters, Zafon's The Shadow of the Wind, and Dalí's Hidden Figures.
Чем я могу поделиться с хостами
I am all smiles with people willing to allow me to discover new cultures and will help with anything I can, from housework to sharing stories and laughs around a drink or a nice meal shared altogether. For some who speak French and want to practice I am there for you to practice because especially when travelling and hearing the language you live is so comforting that it will be a pleasure for me to allow you to practice. :)
