PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is to borrow from others, remake, slip the copy back in to place and see if they know a difference. An old boss once said to me at the start of each day, "Do good, fight evil." This could be my philosophy, although I am forever enthralled with the medium and so when the word "Philosophy" gets thrown around I think on the burden and gift of inheritance and the wonderful stories I have heard so far. Kant, always on time, Marx, a step out of time, Chuang Tzu, makes me laugh all the time. Ah, just how much time can I devote to making "Philosophy" personal?

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I chop wood and stack wood and break rocks and build walls and make food and do dishes and thesis and antithesis... I Hegel and I Marx.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have done it the old way in places that are old to me. Friends of friends can easily become friends and so back on the east coast I have hardly ever wanted for a place to stay. But without that connection I would seek to find honor in the home in which I stay, to repay kindness in kind.

Interessen

The delicate balance of the ground upon which I stand, and in the words of one old brit, "elephants all the way down." I could not pass up the chance to say I am interested in being interested, the currents of the world in which we stand, and the sweet smell of flowers on a southern wind.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

Books in order of occurrence; Treasure Island, A King's Fifth, An abundance of inherited comic books (Marvel, DC, independents, etc), Tales of The Cyberiad, One Hundred Years of Solitude, (the end of youth, on to College!), Many texts and text books and essays and lectures and books upon books upon surveys and then... The Chuang Tzu, Immanuel Kant's the Categorical Imperative, The Critique of The Gotha Programme, The Little Prince, Numbers, Goedel Escher Bach... too many, too too many and yet always not enough... bah!
Music; Bird songs, quiet, dancing like a fool.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Climbing the Chilkoot trail and leaving behind a beautiful temperate rainforest in order to enter the dream like expanse of Canadian wilderness I forgot the troubles of the world and jumped in a glacial lake high on an alpine bluff.
And of course young love, the ambition of a long life with the passion to throw it all away.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

Not enough, I can put on the face of courage and wear the badge of knowledge but when you walk across the bridge we share watch out! it may not be as sturdy as it once seemed. And yet, if building the bridge is the goal, and the water does not roar too loudly, with patience and those fiery eyes I have no doubt it could be done.
