I'm an art historian who specializes on early Islamic arts and architecture. I currently teach film studies and work with young children as an au pair in Edinburgh . I write spoken words songs and used to play in a band. I'm doing my PhD soon in Oriental Christian art production in Cyprus. (Feel free to ask away about my thesis, hella interesting...) Of course, my interests include other clichès of being an academic: sipping whiskey, pontificating, using bombastic words, and... wearing scarves (?). Other interests include kicking dandelions, singing on bikes, and doing the dishes. I am constantly on the move because of my job but hey, I am not complaining.

I am new to couchsurfing but I've heard raving reviews from my friends who've done this. I travel quite a bit for conferences, holiday and escaping the insanity of academia so this might be a wonderful way of exploring places. Plus, I am currently working on a new spoken-word project about the debilitating difficulties of communication (yikes!) & am looking to hear people's thoughts about it. This seems like a wonderful way to do that.
