About Me

Hi! I grew up in Madrid but I found it too stressful, so I came to live in Gran Canaria 25 years ago. I'm really glad I did, people here are wonderful, they tell you "mi niña", "cariño", have a nice day, "cielo", nothing to do with big cities...

I'm usually away in the summer, so you have better options to be hosted from September onwards.

I like photography and video, although I'm not very much at it at the moment.
I started practicing Hatha yoga in 2016, and it's brought me peace of body and mind.

I became a vegetarian about 10 years ago after watching the documentary film "Earthlings" (terrícolas).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I would like to help people who are travelling and need a place to stay. I would like being helped when I travel and at the same time get to know different people, cultures and world vision. I think sharing is the best way to get all this.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love opera, but also rock, pop, and romantic songs.

Movies: I love "David vs. Goliat" kind of movies, where the hero defeats the powerful guy.
I also like stories in which personal dignity is important, e.g. "La vita è bella, and movies about great teachers such as "Les choristes" (los chicos del coro).

Books: The little prince, One hundred years of solitude. I also recommend "The secret garden", written by Frances Hodgson Burnett in 1910. It's a lovely story about how a person can change once you give her enough love and attention.
I also find Ken Follett great: The pillars of the earth, Code to Zero (doble juego).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Working in Marine Biology rearing starfish. I remember my supervisor telling me once: "Isabel, throw that away, it's animal crap". He thought I had sampled fish shit. I ignored him and kept it... with time it turned out to be a starfish egg, which developed into a beautiful starfish!

I used to dive when I was living in Scotland. I experienced two amazing dives there: I saw a scallop (vieira) swimming away; in the other one we came over a "prairie" of brittlestars (ofiuras), absolutely unforgetable!!!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love learning languages with audiobooks and "books-books", made out of paper, I mean. Last year I read "The pillars of the Earth" in German and in English, and it was a great way to freshen up my German which was really rusty. The only thing... I learned old fashioned words, which people understand but sound a bit too formal sometimes ;)

In my spare time I could show you the town by bike - my boyfriend has two spare bikes, so we can all go bike-seeing!
