Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Not much yet, but I already :
- scared a sympathetic girl with my "Grumly" bear (Lucille, 'hope your exam' went well),
- hired two great girls from Hong-Kong to translate chinese caracters from fans (Connie and Dorothée : one day I'll know how to write my name !),
- tried to keep one innocent girl awaken all night by talking to her non-stop (OK... maybe she was not that "innocent" in that matter ^^) (Faye, 'can't wait to hear from your next adventures !)
- met a great photographer (Malika, thanks for the book, thanks for the chat, thanks for the tips on "special" photographers... ^^)
- shared a bit of my knowledge on Bollywood movies (Kavita and Yasmin, your sarong is my new home-sweet-home-uniform !)
- taught a friend that Spanish is not the only "main" language in South America thanks to a nice Brazilian guy (Joel, say "Hi" to the Iguaçu falls next time you have the opportunity. One day I'll go myself !).
- discovered that my house brings luck to people I host (congratulations Jean-Baptiste !).

Let's see the "minus" side of CS :
I love hosting, but I'm getting tired of people who seem to consider CS hosts worst than hotels/hostels : who don't answer messages, who don't give news, time (or even day) of arrival (believe it or not but there is no front desk open 24/7 here...), or who simply don't show up...
Please, don't be like that !

Interests

I'm bad at listing things... Interests or others... But let's try !

- I'm interested in... discoveries.

- I'm never tired of meeting new people, new cultures...
- I love taking pictures, either digital or pinhole ones (http://sophiesworld.free.fr/album/index.php?album=Stenopes).
- I like making hand-made stuff, from that cute clay penguin to my desk.
- I used to be an avid moviegoer, but I lack time and money, nowadays. When moving back to Rennes, I chose not to have TV anymore, but I bought an oooold videoprojector which is quite good as an ersatz. (Until I build my own small theatre in the attic !)
- Once in a while, I watch a good (not so) old Bollywood movie and honestly wonder why most people just laugh at the idea of it.
- I couldn't live without music. I want to listen to everything I can, even though I will not necesseraly like everything :).
- I like cycling around or in the city. I also ride my unicyle from time to time, mostly in my street only : I have to admit I'm not very good at it, but I'm trying to improve !
- I love thin rain, walking barefeet in the grass, closing my eyes to "see" things around differently...
- I'm bad at jokes, I always make the same few ones, either in French or in English, but as they say in "Keeping the Faith" : "I love that I suck !". (By the way, I thank the Christmas crackers for my small repertory of English humour".)
- I love cooking, I love spices !
- I enjoy reading on the "bedch" (or on a flat rock, surrended with mountains, under the Lofoten sun, but that doesn't happen as often as desired - me being there I mean...) !
- As much as I don't like it in "real life", I enjoy pretty much playing online "Scrabble", especially with a special friend of mine, when she's not travelling ! ^^.
- Which reminds me of my passion for postcards ! I love sending postcards from places I visit, and I love receiving postcards too.
- When spring comes back, I just cannot keep myself away from gardening a little, watching Nature do its best job, and going to yard sales.
- Oh ! and if you mention "chocolate" while asking for a night or more, I'll offer you some chocolate cake on your arrival ! (well deserved after reading all this ! ;-))

Music, Movies, and Books

What I love most are my "travelling playlists".
I ask my friends for a few songs/musics recommandations, and then, I don't listen to them until I'm far away from home.
That way, I discover new sounds in new sceneries and I feel like I'm travelling with those I care about.
(Which is generally "enough" for me, as I actually love travelling "alone".)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hmmm... To be completed, I'll come back from time to time when I remember something amazing I could have done...

- New Year's Day bath in Venice's Lido
- Great times in Norway : Midnight sun in the summer, northern lights in the winter, climbing Møysalen...
- Going to Israel thanks to friends met in Iceland... While travelling in Europe was a mess because of Eyjafjallajökull. Seeing Iceland-shaped cloud above the desert.
- Going back to Iceland almost 10 years later. Seeing another Iceland-shaped cloud above Helluvatn.
